Hi all. Thought i'd post a message to see if anyone had anything similar happen to them with their PS3.

My PS3 is a few months old. I don't abuse it at all. Its in a completely smoke-free enviroment, i use it maybe once every 2 or 3 days fo a few hours to watch a blu-ray or play a game. I've never dropped it or mishandled it. I havent even moved it once since i set it up.

The other day i turn it on and hit eject to eject a DVD and it makes this loud cracking noise and nothing comes out. After a few tries, no success, so i hold down eject and it finally spits it out.

At first i was thinking maybe its a bad disc, but i don't notice any scratches. So i pop in a different DVD (one i wouldn't care losing) and it ejects with no problem and no noises. I try a third and it ejects normally but makes that annoying noise CLACK CLACK CLACK as it comes out.

Does anyone have any idea why its doing this? I've searched on google and havent found anything except people trying to sell PS3 repair manuals online.

Isn't it still under warranty? Just contact and send it in rather than trying to figure out what is wrong and let Sony handle it.

yeah i guess thats what im going to do.

Quick question, if i send it in and they end up giving me a new one. What happens to all the stuff ive paid for downloaded from the Playstation Network?

You will get a refurbed one back and you need to take everything of your hard drive if you don't want to lose it. I think you need to close/change your network account as well. Not sure about that, I don't have one.

Not necessarily. I personally know 2 people who sent their PS3 in and received the same unit back, with all their game saves, etc. still on it.

I had to send mine in last year, it took just under 2 weeks and I got the same ps3 back! just make sure you back up your hdd and know all your account info to alleviate any problems setting it back up again when the fixed or "new" unit is shipped out to you. good luck

you can download things you've purchased on PSN on up to 5 machines. when you get a new one, just sign in to your PSN account and you'll be able to redownload them w/ no problem.

yup, there's also a handy list of account transactions in the PSStore you can go to and download from, instead of searching.

Getting the same machine back is very hit or miss, I would at the least make a system backup to an external drive and deactivate your account from the PS3 before you send it in. Deactivating just removes it from the machine not from the PSN so when you get your new machine just be sure to remember your account name and password then you can go to the psn and redownload all of your purchases. Also all of you trophy info will follow automaticly.
