No need to upgrade your current Sony blu. You just need to make sure to purchase a receiver that will decode Dolby True HD and DTS master audio onboard from the Sony's bitstream audio output via HDMI if you to hear all the latest codecs.

as mentioned, you need an a/v receiver that can decode HD codecs sent over an HDMI cable. A couple of suggestions - Onkyo SR606 or SR607, Yamaha V465 or V565, Pioneer VSX-819 or 919.
some capable speaker sets to go with your receiver, but stay near your budget, are
Energy C-50 package http://www.wwstereo.com/#/ecommerce/store/Speakers/33/144822/9_2_-1_84__0_0_0_-1/
a Jamo "4 tower" setup, but you will need to add a subwoofer in the future http://www.wwstereo.com/#/ecommerce/store/Speakers/33/144761/9_1_-1_103__0_0_0_-1/
http://www.thespeakercompany.com/TS51T-HT-P125C35.aspx with 10% off coupon "HT199"
a small JBL system http://store.audioholics.com/product/1682/17/jbl-scs500-5-5-1-channel-speaker-system
Now - all this info may be useless because we don't know what your room size and setup will be, your speaker preference - bookshelf; floor standing; large / small; etc.
so, the above suggestions are listed with "a grain of salt" because they may not come close to fitting your needs, I just wanted to post something to get you started in the quest.

be carefull now.....:).....you are stepping onto the slippery slope of "upgrade-itus"
If you budget is $800 for receiver and speakers, your receiver should cost about 1/3rd of the total, the rest for speakers. No matter how many bells and whistles you have on the receiver....it's the speakers that actually create the sound you hear.
By requireing HDMI audio and HD codec decoding you have already set the bench mark pretty high for an inexpensive receiver.
The Pioneer 1019 is a very good receiver, but too expensive for your budget.....usless of course you "have seen the light" and are increasing your budget. If that's the case, you already have the "virus".
$800.00 is the budget for the reciever next month I will have 2000.00 for speakers.

oop's, I misunderstood your post. With a receiver budget of $800 I would stick with Yamaha V765, Onkyo SR706, Denon 2309, or maybe Harmon/Kardon. I normally would add Pioneer Elite series receivers, but currently Pioneer is having an internal struggle to see if it will remain in the home high end audio market.
