View Full Version : Horizontal stability issue with Samsung 30" CRT HDTV Monitor

I recently moved from Detroit to Colorado Springs. Something happened to this monitor in the move so that now, the picture is all wiggly horizontally - particularly on the extreme sides of the picture. The center of the screen is relatively stable.

The picture from this CRT is glorious when it works. Now it is quite disappointing. It is viewable, but it is very far removed from being HDTV (it's a 1080i widescreen model)

Would there be a possible simple repair for the unit? Something that I might be able to do by opening up the box and re-seating circuit boards, turning some pots with a small screwdriver, etc?

Would there be anyone here that might have some guidance on next steps to repair this unit?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the shadow mask or aperture grill, whichever your set has, may have been jarred loose. If you bump the side of the set, can you induce any movement or shimmer? If yes, then that kind of proves it. A replacement crt (tube) would be the only fix.

Sounds like you have dirty AC power at your new place. Is the problem intermitent? Or does the waves go away when you bump the TV.

The problem does not change with bumping the TV. It is not an intermittent problem.

I really do think your problem has to do with line noise from the AC power. Are your other TVs showing any problems?

This thread can be considered closed. It was a bad capacitor in the power supply. A local TV repairman diagnosed and repaired the power supply and now we are back to a nice stable picture.
