View Full Version : Its A Wonderful Life (1946) -- November 3rd linkin09 06-30-09, 02:17 AM Announced by Paramount Pictures. iDarren 06-30-09, 07:49 AM GR8! I hope they include all the extra features. I was getting weepy watching this last Christmas :) bassmonkeee 06-30-09, 08:43 AM That's great. This is an annual ritual for my wife and I. Now they just need to release the Alastair Sim's Scrooge, and I'll be set. There was a nice remastered DVD a couple of years ago (it even gives you the choice of 4:3 or 16:9), so hopefully there is an HD master floating around. cybe 06-30-09, 08:58 AM Some of my Godfather's cars were used in the movie :) dcmo 06-30-09, 10:20 AM That's great. You're in luck, it's coming out on the 3rd of November also. I'm surprised that it wasn't posted here, I've known about this for several days. Not only one of my favorite Christmas movies, but IMO one of the all time greats. Donnacha 06-30-09, 10:39 AM Cool - also a ritual im my household, but I don't think anyone other than me in my house will be bothered about a HD version! This one is more about snuggling up on the sofa at Xmas in front of the fire and watching, rather than firing up the projector and 5.1!! Yung 06-30-09, 11:12 AM Cool. Its one of those titles thats broadcast every year like Sound of Music and Ten Commandments, so wondering if people think its worth picking up titles like those. Art Sonneborn 06-30-09, 12:08 PM Cool. Its one of those titles thats broadcast every year like Sound of Music and Ten Commandments, so wondering if people think its worth picking up titles like those. Well so is Wizard of Oz. I bet it will sell. Of course one has to take into account the demographic disadvantage but still.... Art bassmonkeee 06-30-09, 01:45 PM That's great. This is an annual ritual for my wife and I. Thanks for the info! ambientcafe 06-30-09, 02:55 PM Also makes a great, economical, & timely Xmas gift for the Blu fan among friends & family! Dave Mack 06-30-09, 11:37 PM Great film. The better the quality the better the experience.... Has amazing contrasty atmospheric photography for the alternate timeline journey.... ChrisW6ATV 07-01-09, 02:45 AM Cool. Its one of those titles thats broadcast every year like Sound of Music and Ten Commandments, so wondering if people think its worth picking up titles like those. Yes, without a doubt. HD picture, high quality sound, no commercials, no on-screen logos, no waiting for the scheduled broadcast to start, proper aspect ratio (most likely), pause/rewind or whatever without paying for cable or satellite TV plus a DVR fee... I could probably find more reasons to own titles like this, too. jaaguir 07-01-09, 12:47 PM I think it's kind of weird that Paramount chose this to be their first B&W "old movie" release on blu-ray. I mean, this year they have been re-releasing some of their top classic B&W movies on dvd in the "Centennial collection", with new extras and new masters, I believe, and they haven't bothered to release a day-and-date blu-ray for those. I know, too early, but hey, when will they start? There are some more Centennial releases announced for the future, but no blu-ray for those either, at least for now. This movie was public domain for a long time. Maybe that's something to do? I wish they released other PD titles they picked up for dvd in latter years then, like "The strange love of Martha Ivers". How about being the first at releasing a blu-ray film-noir collection, huh, Paramount??? hehe, daydreaming. I guess they chose this because it's a cult movie and the big fanbase. I really hope it sells well. dpeters11 07-01-09, 08:33 PM Well so is Wizard of Oz. I bet it will sell. Of course one has to take into account the demographic disadvantage but still.... Art You never know. Not sure if I'd be in the demographic disadvantage, but I'm a 35 year old that would pick up Sim's Christmas Carol. I've noticed its not been aired for a few years that I've been able to find. Not into It's a Wonderful Life, though I like Jimmy Stewart. Would get it for my wife though, she loves that movie. We rarely watch TV nowadays other than a few select shows because it's just so aggravating with the animated pop-up promos and the nonstop commercials. joerod 07-01-09, 11:25 PM Can't wait to preorder this one. :) Timothy Ramzyk 07-02-09, 03:46 AM That's great.
