Hii
I have an original 20G XBOX that I got at launch, I have several dozen games but I am by no means an avid player (probably a couple of hours a month). My son just bought an Elite about a month ago and I don't think it's been turned off since it came into his house. He does not have internet so he is not on line, one of his favorite games is Guitar Hero World Tour and he is also a big Phish fan, I noticed today that there is an addon track pack of Phish available for download. My question is if I D/L this and put it on a memory card will I be able to give this to him? Is there some DRM deal where it would only play on my machine? Also remember he is not on line so I'm thinking that this will not run on his box. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

wont work. if you purchase it on your internet enabled xbox it will be associated with that xbox's serial number.
very heavy drm on the xbox.
the best way for him to enjoy the extra phish content is to hookup his xbox to the net, setup an online gold account, and buy the content using his gold account.

this way is the least confusing. i have multiple 48-hour trial codes. if you want one i can give you one so you can get online free and just have to pay for the additional phish content

Appreciate the offer, obviously I am already on line myself, he has NO internet service not that his box isn't connected but it's not available. I didn't think that it would work but I had to ask, thanks again for your help.

There is no need to have a Gold account to purchase DLC on XBL. A silver account will do. And just have your son bring his Xbox 360 to your house and you can do it there. Once it's on his hard drive and associated with his account, he doesn't need to be online to play that content.

Sorry to thread jack, but I have a related question. I had my HDD plugged into a buddy's 360 and purchased some DLC. At the time, I didn't think about DRM issues, but now I can't access that DLC. I thought I remembered hearing that you could reset the DRM once a year (in case your console RROD) or if you were logged into live the DLC would work. Can anyone confirm or deny these?

I believe if you are using your gamertag AND signed into XBOX live, you can use your DLC on another console other than the one you downloaded it on.

What is a "roaming" Xbox 360 console?
This term refers to using content that you purchased on one Xbox 360 console on another Xbox 360 console. For example, you may download a game from the Xbox LIVE Game Marketplace to your Xbox 360 console. You may then take the hard drive that contains that game and attach the drive to another console. When you attach the hard drive and sign in to Xbox LIVE, you can play the game without any restrictions.
Note For such roaming to be allowed, you must be connected to Xbox LIVE by using the profile that purchased the content so that the usage rights can be verified.

If you have a new console you can use the license transfer tool:

First I am no fan of how all this works, it's as rigid as it can get imo. The best way is to have your profiles on a memory card. Take that with you, log into the profile on the card (auto shows up in sign in profiles) and then you can download what you already own (obvious internet connection needed) and play when you are logged into that profile. You can't move DLC from one profile to another. The DLC isn't registered to your system but to your profile. I do this all the time with 2 360's in-house.

Things I just love (not) is if you want to setup Parent controls. You need to have a master account, then make a second profile that then allows you to set some restrictions, you can't set those on the main account. And if both of you have aspirations of being online (most likely), that wil be two gold memberships thank you! Then lets say me and jr play Rock Band and we want our own achievements etc on the same 360. Yes I have to buy the DLC for both of us seperately. How more (racial slur here) can you get?

First I want to thank everyone for thier assistance, my intent was to give this to him as a gift, which apparently cannot be done. Since he is not online a point card is also no good, and I wasn't aware of just how restrictive it is, that people on the same console cant even share it. I guess that's why M$ is rich and I am not.

Well, it can be done by borrowing his console, hooking it up to your internet, signing in as him, then purchasing/downloading it. Just wouldn't be a "surprise" unless you can sneak it somehow.

And he doesn't have any internet? Does he live on some kindof desert island? How does he function? **head explodes**
