This is not myth specific, but there are so many builders in here maybe someone can give me a hint. Everytime I have a power surge/reset in my house during a storm (just had one) MythTV box goes down and will not reboot unless I go through the following steps.

1 - open the case
2 - remove the battery from the mobo
3 - remove the Ram (Two 2G DDR800 kingston)
4 - Reinsert the memory and battery and power back up

The mobo is an Asus M3N78 Pro. I have and Athlon in there. 500W power supply from apevia. This happens every few weeks/months. I get no post screen, and no beeps. The hit we had kept the lights out for about 2 seconds, no circuit breaker tripped, but I knew MythTV was not coming back without all this crap I gotta do. And I was right

If I were you I would invest in a good surge protected mains extension or even better a small UPS (APC is best, something like the RS 500).

Ever heard of a UPS? It will solve all those problems. I have one (or more) on every system in my house. I also have the TV's behind them so I can still watch when the power goes. I recently bought a couple of Powercom 800VA units. About $70 each and work well. Personally, I'd never run A system without a UPS.

While I agree a UPS is a smart idea, and I am looking into getting one, this behavior seems odd. I've just never seen a PC respond this way to power outages before.

I'll look into thos units you guys recommended.
