Can anyone tell me if I can add 2 side speakers wirelessly to my current 5.1 home theater setup. Is this even possible or do I need a 7.1 reciever to do this? Will the sound even be recreated properly if this can be done wirelessly? Thanks for your help. Just more so wondering if this is even possible.

if your a/v receiver has 7.1 output, then you could hook the two additional speakers up with a wireless adapter, like the Rockfish, to the two unused speaker connections. If you have many 2.4 Ghz wireless units, like cordless phones, WiFi adapters, leaky microwave ovens, lighting dimmers, etc. you will not be satisifed with any wireless speaker system - too much interference from those other RF emitting devices.
If your a/v receiver is 5.1 only, add the two extra speakers would do nothing - but might harm your amplifier by dropping the combined speaker impedances on the surrounds below 4 ohms.

Thanks. After a little more reading I think I came to the conclusion that anything wireless is kind of a stupid idea with regards to home theater audio.

DaveFirst, when you go from 5.1 to 7.1, you are adding rear surrounds as the side surrounds are part of 5.1.
Second, this is quite doable with various devices but less optimal than wired.

Haha, glad you had a 'time saving' epiphany there.
