I'm puzzled about an AudioQuest HDMI-3 cable I recently purchased from Ebay. I want to test the cable to see if it's genuine or fake and I don't think that I can take it apart to find out. Do any of you experts have some tips on how to go about this task?

I know that the genuine cable is supposed to send a/v signals at over 20gbps
and there is a solid conductor w. 6.1% pure silver coating. Please try to help me and refrain from any argument:eek: about expensive cables being snake oil.

I'd call AudioQuest and ask them what to look for, and I don't think you should take the cable apart.

What do you expect to prove/disprove?

Well, it IS your dime, and if you want to buy a variety of HDMIs from various sources, I suppose there's nothing wrong with gutting a couple of them to spot any(potential) shortcuts in their construction. I wouldn't advise using them though, after reassembly. Chalk it up to 'sperience!

I admire that American style of ingenuity and discovery and have taken apart a few recordplayers & boomboxes in my youth. ;)

IMHO, if you buy one for $10 and it works, be happy. It's just a cable. :p

Then if one has a question/concern about the authenticity of the cable(s), if the price sounds too good to be true, it's probably a "fake".

Doesn't matter... if you've paid over $20 for an HDMI cable, it's too much IMO.

If you suspect deception with an EBay seller... report it.

The PDF was extremely helpful as was the advise on reporting this to Ebay. I should have known better. Guess I'll just opt for a full refund through Paypal and order a "Genuine" HDMI directly from BetterCables. No way could I possibly afford or even justify a $275 dollar 1M AudioQuest HDMI-3 cable... Sheesh. A good 4th to all of you!
