I have 2 projectors, an LP250 and the 4805. I like the quality of the 4805 but i dont like the color band rainbow things i see when there is bright scenes or when i move my eyes quickly.

Are there any LCD type that have the quality of the 4805 but work like the LP250 under $1k?

I think im at about 15' throw on a 120" screen. Neither will quite fill the screen though. Inly place i could mount it though.

Try the Panasonic AX200U sounds like a good choice at your price range for LCD. It's HD and a lot brighter, so it has those two things going for it. Plus, smoothscreen technology for no pixel structure.

I highly recommend AX200. Excellent value for a 720p projector.

Try here (http://www.visualapex.com/Panasonic/projector-specifications.asp?for-the=PT-AX200U) and see the real price after you add it to the shopping cart

How about the Epson Home Cinema 720? Seems about on par with the AX200 quality wise and sells at your price point.
I believe there's a free extra bulb offer on this PJ now also.

Look at some of the comparisons between the AX200 and the HC720. They are both fantastic projectors with some slight differences and each excels at something the other does not. Look at the comparison at ProjectorCentral.

You can't go wrong with either and the choice should be clear when you look at the differences. For example, the AX200 has, more inputs, smoothscreen technology, and is brighter, but with my age and eyes :O) that was not as important as color saturation, contrast, and black levels since I have a light controlable room.

Either is going to be great.

Is there anything that came out around the time the 4805 did? Somthing a few years older i could keep an eye out for a used one on e-bay or craigs list?

I like how the 4805 has the M1 input and the componet, i can hook up my DVD player to the componet and my WDtv to the M1 never have to switch any cables around and everythign stays hooked up.

I saw an Epson HC720 and the 4805 is what came to mind. This comparison was in the Epsons mode for watching movies(home theater black mode).

Well im not sure what the Epson runs but i think i found what i was looking for. The Infocus SP5000 its almost identical to the 4805 but LCD, it even has all the same inputs!

I hope it looks as good, ill know when i get it. So far they run about the same price used on e-bay also. $3-$400

For a lot of us, the 4805 represents the best example of a bang for the buck projector of its day. It offered 80% of what the most expensive projectors offered at the time for one quarter their price. When someone asks what projector now compares to it, we think of ones that now approach the best the industry has to offer, at a price lower than the competition - we think of bright, user friendly units, because the 4805 had those qualities in spades - and we think of projectors that offer some game changing innovation (for the 4805 it was its excellent video signal processing.)

My recommendation for a projector that compares to the 4805 both literally and metaphorically - being new, bright, inexpensive, and breaking new ground - is the Optoma HD66. It is DLP, though, so is not the one if you want LCD.

Among LCDs, that Panny 200 is the one that carried on the tradition of the 4805, but buying one of those now for $1000 does seem steep to me. I think the Panny 4000 is the bang for the buck champ of LCD right now, and it costs about what the 4805 did back when it was new on the market.

An old LCD will probably not give a picture with as good a contrast as your old 4805, no matter what the specs say. It took several years for LCD to catch up with the 4805's contrast, and then a couple more to match its brightness. But if you get a used projector for a few hundred dollars, the chief issues would probably be its current condition - not its specs when new.

Well ide love to have the money to drop $1000. on a projector but with the economy the way it is right now im lucky to just have a decent home theater at all.

The 4805 is great and i wish i could just use it only but when i watch movies alone the rainbow affect tends to distract me.

It may not beat the 4805 in quality i hope it comes close but i like how it has alot of the same inputs.

I was using the LP250 hopefuly it will look better then that one.

I also want a fully working backup, right now my backup is a panasonic PT-L501U and that thing has a horrible image and its so limited in the picture settings. All of the infocus projectors ive had you could adjust everything and get a really nice looking image. Even the LP250 had all these custom settings i loved it. It only had RGB, Svideo and composit though.
