I am using Canon HF100 camcorder with 16 GB Sandisk Extreme III card. After recording video content, it plays back seamlessly on PS3 with a USB card reader after i slide the card into the reader.
However, i am using an external HD on my computer to store these videos into unique folders. I simply copy the entire content of the SD card into a folder that i title with the date and time it was shot.
To play older avchd recordings, i tried the following. Copy entire content of old folders back to sd card and try to play them on ps3 but it doesn't work. PS3 shows folder architecture but no files. The triangle "option" key does not show all the files.
any ideas how i can play older AVCHD files again? they are all archived as they were on the original SD cards that DID play on the PS3. For some reason, after saving on computer something gets lost and it doesnt play
thanks for your help

I had a problem with the PS3 recognizing video files that I had copied back from a computer drive onto a USB thumb drive.
My "FIX" was to make sure I copied files into a top level folder on the drive called "VIDEO", rather than copying to a totally empty thumb drive.
Perhaps doing the same with the SDHC card will work for you ?
I seem to recall seeing some threads about people having a similar issue and that the "FIX", as theChiz suggests, related to the folder architecture. It doesn't seem like just copying the files would make them un-usable. Try checking the folder architecture again. The PS3 is very picky about this.
Does the PS3 manual have any information on this?
Is there a way that you can put the card back in your camera? If so, do that and hook your camera to your PS3 and see if the vid's play. That way you can confirm whether the vid's are somehow corrupted or damaged.

Videos playback fine on my computer.
To save my AVCHD files, i copy entire SD card contents onto my computer HD including the folder architecture.
To play back, i copy entire contents of copied folders back to SD card into "video" folder but PS3 does not recognize any files.
I have hundregs of gigs of AVCHD family videos - yet can't use PS3 for playback because when i copy back to SD card, they don't play.

Did you try formatting the SDHC card in the camcorder before copying the folder structure back onto it? Did you try copying the archive via usb cable --> camcorder instead of by the card reader?
Does the included software have a feature of copying contents back to camera? This is one function of Panasonic's HD Writer software, to allow the transfer of AVCHD raw footage from the editor back onto the camcorder (although it will not allow edited footage to copied back onto the pc).

I have no such problems, so there has to be something missing during your copying process. And your PS3 can play Raw files without the folders too! Just copy all your MTS or m2ts files into the root directory (or ANY directory/folder), press triangle to display all, and your PS3 can play them directly! You don't really need the folders at all.
And if you want your PS3 to play all the clips sequentially (instead of pausing after each clip), make sure you change the settings at the video settings menu.
The only advantage of proper AVCHD folders is to get seamless playback between clips, while you may get a slight pause with sequential playback of raw mts/m2ts files.
To play back, i copy entire contents of copied folders back to SD card into "video" folder but PS3 does not recognize any files.
Can you be more specific and maybe write down your folder structure here? Try formatting your SD card with your camcorder first (not in your PC).

This is a different statement from your opening remarks of this thread:

Do you see the difference? You're creating another layer of folder hierarchy that isn't present with your raw footage.
While you're at it, try altering the folder view on your pc so that you can see all the 'hidden' files. Maybe when you are copying, invisible files are left behind. And as mentioned before, let your camcorder do the card formatting instead of your pc.
