Here's my problem. I have a sony hdr sr12 and the equinox underwater housing. My wife just got me the LCD backplate for the housing for my birthday. Unfortunately, the LCD monitor uses a 1/8 mini plug as it's video input and my camcorder only has a a/v r analog output port.
So, I need to some how go from a 1/8 mini plug (video) to a a/v r. I found only one adapter that would work:

However, this adapter is $140 (99 euros) and I don't need the LANC input (smaller hole). Can anyone think of an alternate solution? Is there anyway to create my own adapter?

I'm not sure why something like these wouldn't work.

Just use the existing a/v out cables that came with the cam and stick a cheap adapter on the end.... or is there something I'm missing here??
Well, coming out of the display is a 1/8 mini plug (male). The supplied wire will leave me with RCA (male). None of those adapters take both a male mini plug and a male RCA. In addition, there is a space constraint. This all goes into an underwater housing. Having 10 feet of wire and multiple adapters can be problematic.

There are TONS of female 1/8 inch to rca adapters out there. As for the extra cable... take a soldering iron and a pair of scissors and shorten it up. If you can't then take it to an electronics store. They'll do it for you for a couple of bucks. If you can get a LANC adapter in there then you can certainly get the supplied cable and a small adapter in
I really think you're making this out to be a little more complicated than it needs to be.

You're probably right. Here's a question. Some of this stuff says it's for audio. Does that matter at all if the intended use is video?

It does not matter, electric plugs are the same for audio or video I think.
