View Full Version : ESPN Gameplan In HD? hokie93 07-02-09, 01:50 PM Does anybody know if Gameplan will be in HD this year? Richard Tywoniak 07-23-09, 07:30 PM Does anyone know if Game Plan is in HD? dcowboy7 07-23-09, 07:41 PM Nope it isnt. fredfa 07-23-09, 07:56 PM I wonder why not. Many, if not most, of the available games will be produced in HD. Lee L 07-27-09, 04:33 PM Nope it isnt. It does seem unlikely, but no official announcement has been made that I can find. ak3883 07-28-09, 12:16 PM I wonder why not. Many, if not most, of the available games will be produced in HD. Umm, how about space for HD channels? FiOS doesn't have that problem, copper-based providers do, and Directv is currently maxed out till they launch another satellite. GameHD and TeamHD are not very widespread really, and there you are dealing with pro sports. GamePlan you are only dealing with mostly ESPN Regional Television produced games, which doesn't have the budget that FOX/CBS Sports does. I do think we could see 1 HD ESPN PPV channel in the next year or two, that provides 1 or a couple HD games on each weekend, both for college football and basketball seasons. I have no inside info, just guessing. dyhrdmet 07-28-09, 12:42 PM I do think we could see 1 HD ESPN PPV channel in the next year or two, that provides 1 or a couple HD games on each weekend, both for college football and basketball seasons. I have no inside info, just guessing. I think that's a logical guess. How many games in syndication are produced in HD (not counting FSN)? I believe Raycom/JP did/does ACC and SEC games (at least football and the main basketball). The next progression is for ESPN to take Big 12 hoops, Big East, and SEC to HD (at least for the main football and basketball), and then you'll see the 1 ESPN PPV HD channel (of course, direct tv could do something similar to the pro sports packages and make their own space even if ESPN doesn't). The SEC crowd may start complaining that they've lost HD (unless ESPN surprises us) since they're big on football and basketball down there. steverobertson 07-28-09, 01:02 PM I don't see the benefit of this package anymore there are so many games on already who needs this as well? sangs 07-28-09, 01:13 PM I don't see the benefit of this package anymore there are so many games on already who needs this as well? Couldn't agree more. Seems like there are 10 or more games available on any given Saturday - and that might be a low number. Not to mentiion the fact that there is a college game on nearly every night of the week now. steverobertson 07-28-09, 01:16 PM Couldn't agree more. I used to get this package but dropped a few years back mainly because the PQ was just plain horrible. The games that are on this package for the most part are 2nd tier teams so only occasionally is there a game on there I really want to see but in SD it just plain isn't worth to me and I am a huge CFB fan. I can't wait for the season to start 5 weeks from Thursday bwaldron 07-28-09, 01:16 PM Umm, how about space for HD channels? FiOS doesn't have that problem, copper-based providers do, and Directv is currently maxed out till they launch another satellite. Even without D12 ready yet, DirecTV could find the space for temporary HD football channels on Saturdays if (a) they thought it would be profitable to do so, and (b) ESPN would allow them to provide the games in HD. fredfa 07-28-09, 01:29 PM Many of the ABC regional games are worth seeing. And with MLB EI not broadcasting Saturday afternoons in the early part of the NCAA season, it seems some bandwidth could be made available zacharace 07-28-09, 01:36 PM I think it's ESPN Regional's budget as well, along with provider space limitations. Didn't know the extent of DirecTV's crunch, though... machpost 07-28-09, 09:40 PM The next progression is for ESPN to take Big 12 hoops, Big East, and SEC to HD (at least for the main football and basketball), Big East syndicated events from ESPN Regional aren't going HD anytime soon, unfortunately, and while I've heard from a few people that the SEC syndicated games might be in HD this fall, I haven't seen anything official. bwaldron 07-29-09, 09:05 AM Big East syndicated events from ESPN Regional aren't going HD anytime soon, unfortunately, and while I've heard from a few people that the SEC syndicated games might be in HD this fall, I haven't seen anything official. The HD Sports Guide (http://www.hdsportsguide.com/news/2009/sec-network-regional-affiliations/) says they got an email from ESPN confirming they would be in HD. Given that the LF Sports SEC games last year were produced in HD, not really a surprise. ak3883 07-29-09, 12:24 PM I don't see the benefit of this package anymore there are so many games on already who needs this as well? Agree. For me it's college basketball, but same idea. There are so many games on, and many in HD, that I don't bother with ESPN Full Court. The first year I got a big TV and my own place a few years back, I got it just because. Haven't gotten it since. People in NYC and upstate NY, they get 4 RSNs: SNY(which has deal with the Big East), MSG, MSG+, and YES. All 4 of those show college bball and football games that are ESPN Regional produced. Between SNY,MSG and MSG+, they show ALL Big East basketball games that are on ESPN Full Court. So if you are a Big East fan, you don't even need Full Court. And now that Comcast has ESPN360, I can pull up any game on Full Court/GamePlan, on my PC. commodore_dude 07-29-09, 04:03 PM Gameplan is still going to be useful for out-of-market ACC, SEC and Big East fans primarily, with MAC/Sun Belt/WAC fans to a lesser extent... especially for folks on cable who can't get all of the RSNs (the Big East stuff is usually covered with SNY for folks on Sat/Telco). Also since the SEC is still going to have about a dozen PPV games, plus the games on CSS, on Gameplan, even some folks in SEC country could benefit from that. Does seem like they'd have a compelling list of games in HD now, though: -ABC Regional (Pac-10/ACC/Big 12) -SEC Network -Raycom (ACC) -Potentially the CSS-produced SEC games (CSS has been producing the SEC Baseball tournament in HD for a few years so I'm sure they'll leverage that if possible) Come to think of it, since FSN is licensing their SEC games from ESPN, I wouldn't be surprised if those end up on Gameplan for folks outside the southeast, and those are HD too! chad473 07-30-09, 11:19 AM I used to get this package but dropped a few years back mainly because the PQ was just plain horrible. yeah, it was downright awful here on Comcast. I stopped ordering it 2 years ago. |
