no matter what media server i use, my 360 won't even attempt to play these lossless audio tracks.

sure, just transcode them to lossy mp3 :)

tversity will do this on the fly, but you cant/wont get FLAC quality on the 360. (*** aside from WMA Lossless)

dbpoweramp will transcode those too. I have all my music .flac for my squeezebox and then another copy .wma for the zune. Its easy to use too.

I would just transcode them. Then you'll be fine.

yo. just a quick question... do you have a server type setup? or just a boat load of HDD's?

I have all my CDs ripped lossless (.flac) to an external drive on my computer. And then I have a squeezebox which plays them all through my AVR. I couldn't live without it now after using this setup for 2+ years. I have both of these but you only need one or the other.

I bought the classic a few years back.

Then when Circuit city liquidated, I found the duet at 40% off. The stores used to sell em. I use the duet remote with the classic interface thingie on my rack.

Its all wireless from my PC. And with the duet remote, I can be on the porch and flip through songs, make playlists, etc without being inside. THe classic remote was rf, but the duet remote is on my network.

my concern is simply the size of all those loseless tracks! i have approx. 14,000 songs. all tracks are compressed to approx 128MB mp3. in total its about 50GB of music. i cant imagine what the heck it would be if it were uncompressed!

Well, according to my stats, we have 686 cds, with 8549 songs, ripped losslessly. Plus, I transcoded them all 192 kb .wma for the zune. Takes up 273 GB, on my 500 GB drive. I also backed up this drive on another external in case this one crashes. Re-ripping that many CDs would suck big time.

You can buy a 1TB drive these days for $200 or less. Its so cheap anymore.

Plus with my Squeezebox, I get my Pandora and Rhapsody subscriptions through my stereo.

I despise 128 kb rips. Sound like crap compared to lossless. 192 sounds pretty good though.

It's too bad they haven't allowed for this codec in any of the 360's update.

You could've just transcoded them to WMA Lossless, which I'm pretty sure plays on the 360. Why was that solution skipped over?

that's basically what im looking at doing with my current lineup. :(
yeah i can get 1.5TB for approx $120 (we have a couple of local Frys). i guess i wanted to know if anyone else has a server setup for media serving duties ( i have multiple pc's, ps3, 360, psp). i'll check over at the HTPC area.

lol, i have over 500gb @ anywhere from 192-320k..... i really cant imagine how much space they'd all take up if they were lossless.

i run a server setup, i was running windows home server for a while, and switched it up to windows 7 for MCE, also running a server backend for Divx Connected, and for my original xbox with xbmc.

i've got 6-7 TB of storage with a little redundancy (but no backup, yikes)

You can try Asset UPNP server which will transcode the flac to wave/pcm.
