I've never used an RF remote but i've been toying with the idea of splitting my components to my bedroom and main living area to save space (the physical devices) as well as money (buying a second device for the same purpose). The two systems are directly on opposing walls, so i would only have to run some cables through the wall to do it.
First, is this normally possible? Can you hook up most devices with multiple audio/video outs (not really looking to have them play at the same time, just work without having to swap out cables). Ie, on a dvd/bluray player that has 2 digital outs, an analog out, hdmi and component video...if i hook the HDMI to my main system and the component to the other should they work or do you normally have to have one unplugged for this?
Obviously to make this work i'll need some sort of universal RF remote since i need the signal to go through the wall. Any suggestions for remotes? Hopefully under $400ish.
I currently have an Arcam 350 receiver, it has 2 zones but i think im going to biamp my front speakers so i'll probably use my old yamaha receiver in my bedroom if i thinik the biamping makes a difference - though in a condo not sure i can drive it to a level it would matter). I have an Oppo DVD player, looking at the Oppo Bluray player, Sonos or squeezebox or the like for music streaming, maybe a popcorn hour or mac mini for video, i have an xbox 360 but i cant think of a way to share that one...and ill have some sort of DVR HD cable box...not sure about sharing this one either - but would be nice to share the dvr - but this is one of the only things that may need to be active for different channels at the same time).
If i only end up sharing the one or two things its probably not worth the hassle, but if i go with the hole thing (minus the tv and speakers) it would be pretty interesting and cost effective :).
