Got into a house about a month ago (older place built in 1958, single family rambler) and put together a small media room in my living room. Works well with the space as the room is smaller and bookshelf or floor standing speakers would just eat up to much of the room. This was a retro fit installation I did on my own (with a little help from a buddy of mine to fish the main trunk of wires going down to the equipment), a couple days and I was completed with my 5.1 system. Budget was the main key and a usuable space for my family and ease of use for the wife was the main goal. This room started out bright white, so some paint and decor was put into the mix also to reflect our contemporary style.
Heres the equipment breakdown:
- Marantz SR5003 reciever
- Panamax M5100-PM
- Powerbridge for surge on TV
- Panasonic TH50PZ800U plasma
- Wii
- PS3 with IR2BT to be able to control via IR
- Motorola HD DVR cable box
- Apple TV
- Sonance cinema .5 speakers for left/center/right (got these for free at a rafle at work)
- Sonance cinema SUR for the surround speakers
- Dayton audio RS1200K reference series sub kit
- Sanus VMPL2B TV mount
- Misc. cables from monoprice
- Free open style AV stand I grabbed from work when we moved shops (boss said he was going to toss it out, had to grab it as there was no scratches on the thing, I knew I would use it some day).
- RTI T2C remote
- RTI RP1 RF interface
Pretty much complete with the system still need to make a beauty panel to hide a small coil of wire below the AV gear that I kept as a service loop. My idea behind that is that I may upgrade to a enclosed AV stand at some point and a little extra wire to play with in the future would be a good thing. About the only other addition I plan on is a lutron maestro dimmer IR light switch so I can control the lights in the room from the couch.
Let me know what you think, I am pretty happy with the outcome and it fills our needs perfectly.
