ok, I've been asked to help fix our projector problem at my church. The basic problem is the image comes out white washed from the computer being to far from the projectors.. "i tested this by hooking a lap top up to them with a 5 foot vga and the problem was fine. So i was hoping i could explain the set up and you guys could give me an idea of a fix.. thanks.\

ok, the church has a huge dome and the computer is in the back and is hooked up via vga to a box that converts vga to cat5 and then back with a little adaptor. the box has 4 cat5 cables coming out of it, one goes to the monitor by the pc, the other 3 go into the tubes that run under the concreat floor, one goes behind it all and up a wall to a projector in the back " so our worship team can see the words" and the other two travle forward under the ground for about 150-200 feet and i can get to them at a box they go through, then back in a wall and come out to above the ceiling to the projectors..

What is the best/cheapest way to fix this? somekind of inline amp or a wireless setup?...anything will help. thanks.

So the projector is 300 feet from the screen or the cable run is 300 feet and the projector is much closer?

Expecting a VGA signal to travel that far is a real stretch. Then, 300' seems like a long estimate to me, maybe you do have that long a run but that's a long way.

I would almost think that a separate cheapo PC at each location, with remote wake, no kb/mouse, and some collaboration software package would solve this. Use something like a conferencing software and get the same display on all systems. Older 3Com cards used to come with a package that would work. I remember buying 20 packs of them and getting those disks with them.

I'd probably opt for the Cat6 (or in your case cat5) to a PC at each location, and shorter video cables to the projectors for better image quality.

The network could also be wireless, though at the distances you're talking, that might also introduce issues. If only one system is really distantly remote, this may work. Someone else here will more likely have an elegant solution. PC's all over does sorta ask for problems...

as far as I understand the setup is as so:

PC -> VGA -> VGA to Cat5 Adapter -> 300 feet of cat5 -> Cat5 to VGA Adapter -> Projector

there are 3 projectors that are each 10 feet away from the screens. The idea is i'm needing to send the singal about 200 or so feed from the computer to the projector...
