View Full Version : [HELP!] PDP-LX6090 behaves weird in ISF modes

Hello,

I own a European KURO 9G plasma panel (PDP-LX6090) and have recently purchased ControlCAL to unlock the ISF modes. Much to my surprise, when I did they looked nothing unlike other modes: they weren't any brighter and I had to set Contrast to 42 to make the white bars disappear in the pattern on AVSHD 1.3 (white clipping occurred). I've doublechecked all gamma points (all are correctly set to 0).

My BD player is a Panasonic DMP-BD30 and outputs at 1080p. Signal passes through a Pioneer VSX-LX70 a/v receiver prior to getting to the KURO (should be a pure HDMI passthrough).

Is there something wrong with my set? :(

I've just phoned Pioneer's italian customer service to inquire about my panel's weird ISF behavior (it generates the same light output as any other mode).

The guy who first answered me said it depends on greyscale calibration. Then he gave me a technician who only said to phone later and ask of another technician -.- So did I, and the latter told me the ISF modes are NOT supposed to be any brighter and will look the same as any other AV mode if calibrated by the same guy with the same equipment. He almost treated me like a ****** ("It's not like you unlock two memory banks and suddenly you get superior performances").

Now I'm utterly confused. From what I read on this and other forums, the ISF modes are indeed much brigther than standard av selections and this does not depend on how other parameters are calibrated.

So... what? :(

I have not done the European models; just the North American 9G and 8G Elites/non Elites. I had what sounds like similar issues at first because I was using windows that were too large.
The ISF modes have higher peak light output, but only with small measurement windows.
I found that reducing the window size gave the expected and desired results.
See if you can get a hold of either a different DVD or an HTPC or pattern generator with smaller window patterns.
I initially used windows that covered 25% or the viewing area (those were the ones that were too big), so you want a window that uses 12.5%-18% raster space.

Thanks for your reply, Chad.

To better clarify my situation, I'll add that at present I can count on no meter, so I didn't even use the color patterns.

I unlocked the ISF modes to perform an "in-the-waiting" calibration by selecting the lowest color temp and narrower gamut (LOW and 2 respectively). I was hoping to get a better light output and more precise setting for Constrast and Brightness for now (since my video chain isn't complete, I can't hire a professional just yet).

Unfortunately, my ISF-Day mode looks exactly the same as my MOVIE mode and I've been told by a Pioneer guy that the ISF modes are supposed to look exactly the same as the standard av selections if both are properly calibrated. I was under the impression that the ISF modes should be inherently brighter regardless of whatever setting - if I could have the same results on standard av selections, unlocking the ISF modes would be useless, now wouldn't it?

I replied to your other Thread.
