Hey gang,

I just received my Panasonic 50" P50G10 and i noticed a rather disturbing event during break-in with images.

Dark shades of pretty much any color and dark grays have a lot of static-type noise in them when viewed closely.

Has anyone else noticed this on theirs? Any input greatly appreciated.

I see some noise on some of the break-in images on my new G10 as well as my old PZ700U from a few feet away but i don't see it when watching actual programming. I'm not worried about it - it appears to be a non-issue.

If you are doing the break-in with the Vivid mode, then noise is to be expected.

It becomes apparent from about a 1.5 feet away.

It looks like a scanning issue, kind of like when you have a very loose analog composite video cable on an old tube TV.

I did notice that in my normal picture setting, the problem is half as bad. From my normal viewing position 7 feet away however, it is a non-issue.

-Thanks for the replies.

It is either dithering or "pwm noise" (or those may be one in the same, not sure of the proper terminology). It's just one of Plasma's short comings like line bleeding.

I agree, it's one of those two. All plasmas have it to a degree, some more than others.

Well, whatever you call it (I call it white noise), this one has it to a much greater extent than my Insignia 32" 720p plasma. The Insignia is very clean, the Panasonic quite noisy (mine is a 42" G10). I believe I did get some improvement by turning the sharpness down to zero in Custom mode, but it is still quite noticeable and unpleasant (at viewing distance greater than 1.5 feet). This is while watching TV straight from the cable, HD as well as analog SD. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions for settings to try, it would be appreciated. I do not know what Mosquito Noise Reduction and Video Noise Reduction are meant to improve, but Mosquito Noise Reduction set to ON and Video Noise Reduction set to Weak don't seem to improve it much, if it all.

I see this noise too in my break in slides on my G10 from close distances, like 1.5 ft. away.

I have a solution for you, you can skip break-in like i'm doing and you won't see the noise.

Break-in has nothing to do with the noise I am seeing. It is present during normal TV viewing. Very noticeable on black/grey backgrounds such as the backdrop behind home plate. It does seem to be more noticeable on HD feeds vs. analog SD.

I too see the noise(looks like fast moving red, green and blue static) on my 46g10 and found this thread looking for some advice. I can see it from a distance of probably around 2 feet when viewing a plain black background(through component and hdmi)

What seemed puzzling is when I put in a blu ray into my computer hooked to the tv through HDMI, on the first screen stating it may take some time to load, which is plain white text on a black background, and also on the image before the previews, (the green screen) there was no trace of the noise. But if I brought up the control bar which is a light black, almost gray bar, even though on the movie portion of the display it was clear, there would be noise in this control bar.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, and any answer to why a portion of the display would be clear, while the other portion experienced noise would also be helpful. Thanks in advance!
