One kick butt little movie!

Its region B, though the subs are in the picture area for the CIH guys.

I had my reservations about this one, and I was proved wrong.

Its set in 1940's Manchuria, with the focus of many to get a treasure map.

Very nice looking video, and a audio track that is fun to listen to, along with a couple of places that have some outstanding LFE!

Hard violence here and there, along with plenty of crazy action, and comedy.

Well done!

Seriously one of the best action movies I've seen a while. The plot is simple and fun (find the buried treasure) and the action scenes are just incredible. I watched the 5.1 UK version and the sound during the shootouts was amazing. Everyone should try to check it out.

This movie is AWESOME!

Kim Jee-Woon is one of my favourite director's, having made previous masterpieces A TALE OF TWO SISTERS and A BITTERSWEET LIFE.

As soon as I get a bit of extra money I'll definitely put this on order.

Thanks for the link eric! Preordered ages ago and it's on its way, but I admit I'm not sure how I feel about the screen caps posted by kannisto. The ones here, although off screen, seem to show more facial detail. Apples to oranges I know, not judging anything until I see it in person. The UK release is cheap and the cuts inconsequential, but the korean marketplace for BD is in a bad way and needs sales if we ever want to see more of them.

There seemed to be more facial detail on my HDTV too in some closeups compared to my screencaps which were taken with PowerDVD 7.3. from rather random locations (as I had not seen the movie yet when taking the caps). I don't think there's any lack of detail on the Korean Blu-ray either.

Some more screencaps of the Korean release, taken with a different technique using Nero 8 Showtime (this time in png format), one of these is almost the same frame as the last one of Blasst's pics:

Kannisto,

Glad to see you touching base here now and then.

My pictures are screenshots, not screencaps. I just wanted to show a few pictures of the film for others to see.

This really a fun movie to watch. The 7.1 audio on the Korean release is really a treat to listen too. It has a very active soundfield with excellent bass when called for. The PQ is pleasing as well. I love this movie.

Hey Blasst, thanks for asking and bringing the thread back up, I would have forgotten to post.

Sadly I haven't had time to properly watch the korean BD, but shove it in and inspect I did! Kannisto said it, the look is peculiar, he called it digital. Very clean and punchy. Thing is it doesn't look ee'd, DNR is a possibility but detail is very good if so. I've seen other BD resolve an extra ounce of clarity in fine texture, but not knowing what film stock they shot it on and how much grain there's supposed to be I wouldn't even go as far as questioning it without concrete proof. It's all conjecture and apples to oranges. Maybe I'll get the UK disc one day as it's dirt cheap, just to compare. As is I'm very happy with it, the audio is also a scorcher of exquisit proportions (24-bit 7.1).

The film I'd seen before, and I'm madly in love with it. Hell I have a worrying man crush on all three leads, how's that? Just seeing the intro on the train put the broadest smile on my face. Kim Jee-woon is one of the true virtuoso storytellers, directors who don't just do flashy because they heard the cool kids like it. They make it their own and use it to further narrative and characterization, merging style and substance into an exquisite pastiche. Lesser directors can then go and copy superficial details and wonder why their work isn't cool. The Good, the Bad and the Weird goes back to that place of real cool, and that, despite its superficial irreverence and zaniness, is where it reaches true greatness.

Liersi,
Glad to hear your thoughts on this title. And I'm glad you can share your "true feelings" about the leads here in this thread.:D Just yanking your chain....
This really was a fun film to watch, and my hunch is a good share of AVSer's would enjoy this one. The audio is terrific as you mentioned, some of those gunshot blasts on the opening train scene, really would put the fear into someone if they were in that situation.

I haven't heard anything about a U.S. release? That would help this baby move some copies.

This movie ROCKS.
It is one of the most entertaining films I've seen in a while and reminiscent of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
This review (http://www.aintitcool.com/?q=node/38433) pretty much nails it.

I agree. I think this movie is every bit as good as those early Spielberg pictures.

And I also think the Kim Jee-Woon is unquestionably one of the finest directors in film today.
