Excellent question.

Will we see 0.004ftL or deeper blacks from Samsung and/or Panasonic?

Will we see 10 lumen tech?

Do we have to wait 6 more months until the January 2010 CES to find out?

I guarantee we will see 13G from Panasonic and 2010 plasmas from Samsung, LG coming in and surprising everyone from the rear. A new collaboration as well. HMMMMMMMMMMMM :D

yes there was lots of talk of this 10 lumen tech stuff months ago what has become of it?

I'm guessing that the 10 lumen technology will be delayed until 2011 because of the recession. The 5 lumen stuff will be milked for another year.

Will Panny buy Pio's patents so they can use Kuro panels in 2010?

They probably already meet the manufacturing requirements since they had planned to produce Pio's panels.

expect more "features" on everybodys plasmas and lcds until oled becomes closer to mainstream. until that point, theres no reason to let the cat out of the bag. i see lg dropping out of the plasma market and panny letting go of lcds.

I hope that happens so I can hand-me-down the 600M that is on its way for a 10G Kuro with Extreme Contrast Concept and Fuga (http://kuro10g.blogspot.com/).

While it is certainly not unknown for companies to show products at CES that never make it to market (see: Pioneer :( ), at the 2009 show Panasonic demonstrated some very, very impressive LCD prototype sets. Full 1080 lines of motion resolution, black that appeared to rival or beat the Panny plasmas (in an admittedly non-ideal viewing environment, so who knows?), great contrast and colors, and scheduled for production and rollout in 2010.

A few months ago they released their first LCD larger than 37" (the 42" model that BB sells exclusively). Their current 37" 1080p model is almost plasma-like; it has good black levels and overall looks really good! If i were to need a sub-42" display that would be the one i'd grab.

I think 2010 will be a "ho hum" year in displays. I think it will be a year of marginal improvement of existing tecnology, introduction of 3D technology but mostly talk about future technology. OLED talk will continue and "maybe" there is a group of engineers who could make it work http://www.**************.com/showthread.php?p=45271#post45271

Can you give me more info on the set you are referring to? I am currently looking for a set for the bedroom. It would be used for HD sports and regular DVDs mostly, with a fair amount of digital cable to boot.

Thanks.

Panasonic: slim, infinite contrast, lower power consumption.

Higher resolution, maybe 1440p maybe introduced. 768p will be most likely discontinued. Just a guess...

I don't even see any discussion about 1440p anymore. Compression technology would really have to improve to justify the bandwidth on any platform of broadcast. I can't see any content being available. You won't see another disc format with 1440p emerge, people are reluctant to embrace blu ray.

Still waiting for that rush and absolute have to own frenzy I had when I saw my first Pioneer plasma in 2003 in Best Buy.i even remember it was playing an hd loop of the jay Leno show.Ended up with a 4 thousand dollar 433cmx that is still amazing and hangs over my fireplace. My problem is its still so good.
Thought Kuro would justify a purchase or Panny v10 series but no.Feel that 2010 is going to be when the old reliable companies blow us away or perhaps something new shows up for public consumption.Just want to be forced to buy something by the sheer amazing factor of what i will see next year.Already bored with what 2009 has to offer.

From a competitive stand point I think they kinda have to, but I'm still not convinced they will. Local dimming LCD's are probably going to be making tremendous gains. Many calibrators seem to think the very affordable LH90 has already met or surpassed all the Panny/Samsung PDP's in overall PQ. You can only imagine what another iteration would do if the PDP's continue with their relatively marginal improvements.

I'd like to see Panny/Samsung hit 9g Kuro black levels and produce some brighter picture modes. Thin TV's and energy-efficiency are nice, but I'd rather they produce a great picture first.

Hi All,

Phil Hinton of AVForums (UK) has just returned from IFA-2009 from Berlin and he said that there was hardly if any news or talk whatsoever about any upcoming Plasmas next year. Panasonic only showed the bigger ranges of the current V10 model, Samsung basically had one Plasma on display out of a ton of screens which was a current 850 Series and LG the same with their current PS8000 series.

Phil said all the companies were very heavily pushing LED Backlighting on LCD's (including the Plasma players) and the rest were hyping up 3D. Waste of time really - a major Global Consumer AV show and absolutely nothing new shown or discussed regarding Plasma.

Panasonic has their new models out now that they need to sell. Disclosing next years models would be counterproductive as some people would hold up buying until next year.

I just bought a 50" G15 as a hold over TV until next years 65" + models come out and at that time i will do the TV shuffle.

Bazzy, wasn't there talk last year that the PS8000 was LG's version of Pioneer's ECC touting zero luminance? It never did get released and haven't heard anything about it until you just mentioned it. Or maybe it was just a European model.

That's what I was thinking the next gen Neo's would offer.
Z1 thinness throughout the top lines.
Wasn't Neo supposed to be 50% more efficient this yr & supposed too be 50% better next yr as well?

Price drops!!! :D

I wish some insiders would drop some hints. I remember in 2008 when we were looking forward to 2009 sets, the 'word' around here was that Panny would release VX100 variants early in the year, and later on would release the 'NeoPDP' alongside Pioneer's ECC plasmas. Both with super deep black levels. Those plans changed for some reason.

Hi,

I have a pretty good relationships with LG TV Division & to be honest, they were kind of embarrassed about that those rumours as they were started by an over zealous regional manager based in another country.

Hi,

In true Panasonic fashion, they will probably offer a large but very staggered range based on features & performance - if they do have any models to rival the Kuro, then I expect it to be near the top end of the scale with a very premium price to match. The vast majority of their sales must cater to the band of products the 'average consumer' is willing top pay so Kuro quality will probably be in the videophile pricing range especially if it has fancy form function. Looking at some of the insane prices the latest & greatest LCD brands are asking for next years better models ($4K-$5K) then if that is any indicator, I wonder how they will compete.

I know Panny are talking up 3D as the next big thing but I just learned that JVC's new 46" 3D LCD Monitor has a price of just under $10K! Taking bets gentlemen!

This yr we got pricing AFTER CES!
People were going nuts posting three times a day; like if they posted more the prices would come sooner than panna promised.
So, it will be a few months for models/features & a few more months after that for prices.
Good luck!
