I just moved recently and plugged my pz850u into a wall. After a couple minutes of viewing it shut off, it thought it was a fluke and turned it back on. Well, a few minutes later it shut itself off again. I then plugged it into a different wall and everything has been working fine... This was very relieving since I knew I wasn't to blame. I transported that thing more carefully than a baby.

My question is what do you think was going wrong in the one outlet. What damage if any could happen? If the tv does get a power surge (which I assume happened) what would be damaged; would it be something simple like a fuse, or would be devastating.

The only explanation that comes to mind is the possibility that the socket itself may be worn or defective, with intermittent contacts. You could check this by plugging in a lamp and seeing if you can get it to flicker. However, it is possible that this test might not work, since the blades in the lamp's plug may be of a slightly different thickness, but it is worth a try. In any case, I bet that if you replace that outlet with a brand new one, the problem will go away!

Was the TV very hot after this happened? If so you may have got an overload. It really sounds like a problem with that plug actually getting overloaded and cutting off. What kind of a plug is it?

Call an electrician. It's the outlet, not the TV.

Check the plug at the outlet. If warm, it is loose connection internal to the outlet, which is dangerous (fire hazard).

My father used to go through an electric heater a year because the plastic plug at the end of the power cable kept melting. I finally replaced all the outlets in his 1966 house and was shocked at the build quality of the outlets used. The two outlets where he most frequently used his heater had internal prongs that were melted and nearly burnt off.

I used tight fitting industrial spec grade outlets and he went five years and the heater is still as good as new.

Power lost (heat) is current squared times the resistance of the connection. A TV can draw four amps easily. The connection should be a tenth of an ohm or less. So 4 amps squared times .1 yields 1.6Watts, which is still a lot of heat, but minimally acceptible. Voltage loss will be .1 ohm times 4 amps which is .4 volts loss.

For the TV to drop out, you probably have to go below 95 volts. So 20 volts drop (assuming 115 Vac normal voltage) divided by 4 amps would yield a connection resistance of 5 ohms. Power lost would be 80 watts, enough to heat up and possibly melt the power cable's end plug.

Buy a new outlet. Don't go cheap and get a 50 cent one. Get a spec grade socket that will probably run $2.50. The cost is cheap compared to recovering from a house fire.

I agree with all the above post respond, but can you clarify your statement. Shut off as in power and you pressed the power button to turn it back on. Or shut off as in picture turned off (but the set still have power) and picture came back on by itself?
If its the latter, normally when power has been removed it goes back to first time setup menu. I just wonder if it was set to "store mode" and not "home mode".

Definitely "home" mode. The whole tv turned off and I had to manually turn it back on.
