Greetings fellow entertainment guru's,

I recently purchased a new home and have a dedicated game/media room. I have a pioneer 5.1 system(HTP-XGS1) that I am looking to replace. I am planning on putting 7.1 in this room. The size of the room is 23x22x10.

here are some pictures for reference:

for size reference, the TV is 60" diagonal

What I'm looking to get is a whole new audio system for this room. The pioneer doesn't cut it at all(I knew it wouldn't). I'm leaning toward the denon 1910 and also the SVS pb12 +2 as a sub. These two items are pretty much going to put me at where I wanted to be for the budget, but from what I've read, they appear to be appropriate for what I'm looking for, especially for this room. The system is going to be designed primarily for movie/TV/games. The PS3 will also act as my blu-ray player, so if there is something the Denon can't provide for the PS3 that I would be interested in, please let me know.

I'm looking for suggestions on the entire system. What I've listed is a rough starting point. I'd like to keep the total budget around 2k, at least for what I need to run up to 5.1. This would include stands, wire, etc. also. I would also like some suggestions for sub speaker placement, etc. I will be running the wire under the carpet.

Also, I am planning to buy some type of standing rack for the receiver and other electronics, as I've run out of room in the TV stand. Suggestions for model and placement are also welcomed.

Thanks in advance for the help guys

Edit: Mods please move this thread to AVR section. Thanks.

if i were you id go with emotiva amplification in the 200 wpc vicinity, an emotiva prepro or denon 1910, yamaha 663, pioneer 1019 etc..avr as a prepro you could go with svs, aperion, polk, energy, or klipsch speakers to stay on budget. i think you may benefit from 2 subs--start with them symmetrically a few feet from the back wall and side walls and use the auto setup if you get a sub with that feature. alternately there are more complicated ways of assesing sub placement that can be found on this forum... make sure you take advantage of the phase setting (set it to where you get the best bass from your listening position). turn the crossover on the sub all the way up and lket the avr or prepro do the crossover. also since youll be using the ps3 you need an avr that can handle lpcm over hdmi.

once you get some more feedback and have things more nailed down ask some more questions!

well im still leaning towards the 1910, but i'm starting to drift towards the svs pb13 over the pb12 +2. now these two items will completely destroy my budget, but it looks like I will just have to piece it together slowly, but it appears that is what I will have to do for a room that is 5000 ft^3. still not sure what would complement these two items as far as speakers go.

Thoughts???

for a room that size, instead on one large subwoofer, consider two smaller units.

There is a really nice sale on Jamo towers that will help to fill up the room http://www.wwstereo.com/#/ecommerce/store/Speakers/33/144763// or this system with the larger towers all around http://www.wwstereo.com/#/ecommerce/store/Speakers/33/144762/9_1_-1_103__0_0_0_-1/ They will work fine with whatever subwoofer (or two) you decide to get.

There is a bit of a time issue on this sale...a system with 4 smaller E660 towers has already sold out, so the word is out on these deals.

good luck

how about 2 svs pb12 +2 subs? I've read real positive reviews on this. I've also read that some people don't recommend 2 subs, although I don't fully understand the dynamics of this....

Corner placement for a sub seems to be a good starting point as far as sub placement.

Are there any reviews on these Jamo tower speakers? I've not heard of them before.

I still don't know of any equipment racks to look into either. HELP!!

hey i suggest 2 pb12+ subs for about 2k i just got the same setup in a similar sized room. click link in my sig. these subs completely destroy this room with bass.

for a receiver your in the right area. but do you need all the capabilities of the 1910? what about the 790 or the next model down? also the yamaha 765 or pioneer 1019

Your living room looks super nice. Where did you get those seats?? I'm trying to get some seating for the room, but I can't decide. I'm leaning more towards a sectional to keep the comfy feel in the room(the girls love it:D), but I've considered individual seats.

On the 1910, I already have 3 pieces of equipment with HDMI, so I would prefer the extra port. There was something else too over the lower model that I wanted, but I can't recall what it was... How much were your speakers?

Since the PS3 is going to be your primary player, why not give some thought to an all Sony very kid freindly system. I'll look up some suggestions for you if you'd like.

OTOH, if you already have a Pio system and are not happy with it, I'm not sure that switching to Denon is going to make much of a diff. I'm totally into SVS so I think you're good there. What's your budget?

the pioneer system I have was $100 bucks. The reciever is actually built into the sub, so its nothing to write home about. It actually worked really well(for its price), but its time for a real system.

I must admit the onkyo 607 sounds good from the quick search I did. How much does it cost?

As far as speakers go, yes I'm buying all new speakers for the room. I wanted to cap the budget originally at 1300 bucks, but I've thrown that out the window. trying to get close to 2k for at least up to the 5.1 setup, then I can add more as needed.

I think a dual pb12 +2 is the route I'm going to go, but I'm going to start with just 1 sub for now to get the ball rolling and add another after the speakers and receiver are purchased. I want to make sure I get a set of good speakers that pair well with the sub setup I'm planning on. I haven't read anything on SVS speakers so prices, model suggestion would be great.
