99% of my viewing is xvid TV rips and DVD rips. I've read that xvid always uses rec.601. Is that correct? Does that mean I should calibrate to rec.601 standards?

If so, can I use the AVSHD disk for this, or is that for Rec.709 only? I have the PAL version of the getgray disk. Would that be more appropriate?

Greetings

The HD material is 709 ...

Getgray would be 601

OK so downloaded xvid TV rips would be rec.601 NTSC then? Assuming they were captured in the US. I'm just a little confused because some of them say "HDTV Rip" in the title and others just say "DTV Rip" and some dont even specify. Although I have seen some info that xvid always uses Rec.601. Would that be correct?

I'm also a bit confused about the free to air channels we get here in Australia. We have SD (576i) channels and some HD (1080i) channels also. Would they be encoded in rec.601 for SD and rec.709 for HD? If thats the case, it would be impossible to watch both channels with correct colours. Which would be really annoying. Or am I on the wrong path here?
