I currently have a CC on file with Microsoft and my Gold account auto-renews every January.

If I stop the auto-renewal and use another method to sign up (after my expiration date) will my Gamertag account be affected? In other words, will I still have my Gamertag and gamerscore?

Might be a stupid question, but I don't want to chance it.

yep, you can pay however you want.... no sense in using the auto update and paying $50 every year.

You can forward pay so you delete the credit card info and add in funding via a prepay card the next time they go on sale.
Or, ypu can just remove the card and let the Gold subsvription expire. It won't kill your gamertag or score; it will just revert to silver.

On a related question, I had the CC auto-renew (monthly)...stupid, I know.

Bought the 12+1 month card on special, put it on my account....and yep, you guessed it, my CC was still charged this month.

I guess I gotta call them....I assumed I just wouldn't be charged again until the cards were up (in August of 2010)

That's how it SHOULD work....

I've done the same thing as you and my card didn't get charged so I think you've run into an anomaly.

I called and made sure autorenew was off. Took a while, though! When listening to options, it's the "I want to cancel my subscription" option.

Is calling the only way to cancel auto-renew? Just curious.

i just added a couple of cards to my acct yesterday, a 1 month pre pay and a 12 month prepay. added them via the xbox.com site...i verified that it showed my credit card info still in there, but that it showed my renewal date jump up by 1 month then by another 12 months as i entered the card #'s. did the same thing last year and my card didn't get charged.

Just got off the phone with them and it was pretty simple to cancel the auto renew after verifying my account. I immediatly recieved an email notification about the expiration of my account. I explained to them I got the Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Messenger Gold Pack

Includes Project Gotham Racing 4 game
12 Month Gold Subscription to play online with friends
Chat Pad that attaches to the controller for easy texting
Wired Headset for voice chat
Free $10 credit at Amazon towards an Xbox Live purchase
I just checked it out and looks like it is back at $77. I got mine for $55.
It was supposed to last until 11 July I believe.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EKTF60/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

Price Comparison (as per Amazon)
12 Month Live Card = 44.96
Wired Head Set = 19.99
PGR4 = 19.99
Messenger Kit= 24.99
800 Points (if a card existed) = $10

Total individually = 119.93
Total bundled = $55.96
That's $63.97 saved.

First they have this slanted all towards them, you can't delete your credit card from your account, the best you can do is have it frozen and the only way to use $$$ against it is to call and purchase via the phone.

But lets say I'm on auto-renewal. If I get a year card elsewhere and enter it in, doesn't that move the auto-renewal out another year? So if I continue to use cards, the auto-renewal will never trigger, yes?

Seems like many people have had problems getting a credit card off their live account once it was on, so I just reported my card lost and got a new cc#.

Problem solved.

The information and how to is all right there.
For Auto Renewal you have to contact them by phone to stop the renewal BEFORE the due date in the month you originally purchased it.
I just did this which I just posted above your post.
