I'm in dire need of a HD camcorder and helmet cam. I say 'dire' because my Wife is having our baby by the end of this month and I'll need to film some of it and I'm an avid motorcycle rider and mountain bike rider and I'm in need of a good helmet cam to plug into which ever camcorder I buy.

I wasn't in a hurry to buy but the Wife told me she really wants to buy one before the baby arrives.

So I've been reading and reading and getting no-where. I am hoping some of you have experience with these things and can help me out.

Camcorder Requirements:
1.non-tape
2.Flash drive or sd cards a plus. HDD is ok if it stands up well to action sports such as down hill MTB riding.
3. small size. Doesn't need to be tiny but something that could easily fit in my camelback.
4. HD (720p or 1080p and able to record at 60fps is a plus)
5. Input for helmet cam and possible mic
6. sub 500$ price

Helmet Cam requirements:
1. small bullet size a plus
2. able to provide good quality video (doesn't have to be HD but able to do fast action is a must.)
3. Sub 200$ price

I thank you for any and all help!

Chuck

Ever thought of a hat cam. You can check them out at hatcams.com. They target hunters and fisherman but I don't see why it wouldn't work in the delivery room. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks. Yes I have decided to go with a stand alone Helmet cam.

I'm buying the VholdR ContourHD for around the $299 mark. From what I've seen and read its a fantastic little cam which should meet all my biking needs.

I'm still in need of a HD camcorder for family life purposes but I figure I'll just pick up a $150-200 HD cam which should be great for our needs. I've seen some great cams listed here that I'm looking at.

i'm not sure about all of the specs, but you may want to look into a used Canon HF100... you could probably find one for less than $500 although it would be close. i'm filming an off-road dvd with my friends and that is the second camera we are going to buy (i currently own a Canon HG10, 40gb HDD, shoots in 1080i) and use it as a vehicle mounted camera so there is no HDD to bounce around, got to love flash based memory.
