Im sorry this seems to be a bit of an ... immature? post but, anyone on the fence or thinking about getting a projector.

Just buy it, holy cow. I just watched 30 mins of the Dark Knight, with no sound I was that blown away, and I got a Epson 6100 and there is better out there but dang. It's amazing. I have a 50" plasma and I thought it was big enough, but nothing compares to 110" inches in the basement.

Time to move the rest of my equipment down so I can listen to the movies too.

Seriously though, if your on the fence, jump on over and buy.

I'm on the fence... I think I am going to just buy it (infocus x10), but just nervous.... So are you using a screen or your wall? Did you mount yours on the ceiling or table top??

The good projectors of today will kill any 50" postage stamp!;)

Im using an 18 dollar Black out cloth half-@$$ streched across 2 pieces of 2x4hung from the ceiling, until I construct a frame this weekend, even on the terrible concrete wall it blew me away.

It is sitting on a table top right now but im going to be ceiling mounting it this weekend as well, pretty much all my plans are this weekend but I had to fire it up to see what I got for my money, and boy was it worth it.

I was thinking about the infocus x10 but after a little research I went with an LCD projector and I feel like lens tilt/shift is an aboslute must. You can just "roll" your screen into position. it makes projector placement a piece of cake.

Best buy has the 6100 (the one I just got) on sale for a good chunk off, im not going to list the price due to the rules, but look it up on the BB website.

All you on the fence, just buy it, I was freaking out until I turned it on and all my worries went away.

I mean hell, I paid roughly 1600 + tax for my 50" Plasma and another 100 + tax for my wall mount. I paid roughly the same + tax for my PJ and im going to spend about 100 on the screen/frame DIY why settle for 50" when you can go 110 or bigger.

One thing I would like to know, if someone could answer this for me, How much juice does a PJ consume? Im going to assume its less, even if its the same or more, I also feel its going to be very unlikely I will leave the PJ on like I do the plasma.

I have 2 projectors, the Infocus 4805 and an LP250 shooting at a 120" high gain Dalite screen.

Im more then happy watching the LP250 the majority of the time. I will turn on the 4805 when i have friends or family over but i somtimes just leave on the cheap LP250 that just uses Svideo in.

The quality of the 4805 is better but just the size from the LP250 is more then enough to make me happy.

The only thing that sucks about projectors is the bulb. The fear of burnign the bulb out sucks. Always a constant worry

When I turn on my cable guide, the image is displayed in a 50" window. It looks tiny.

Had company over today for a viewing of sunshine, im the first in my circle of friends get a projector and after tonight im feeling I wont be the last, everyone is extremely impressed, they couldnt even tell about some of the shortcomings (screen wasnt totally level / square to the PJ, the basement is totally unfished, ect lol) they all sunk into the movie and were blown away.

I'm not sure how many watts you're using, but one thing about bulb based pj's you want to be conscious of, is that the wear and tear on the bulb doesn't come from having it on, so much as turning it on. It's the initial striking of the bulb that decreases its life.
In other words, it would be better to leave it on for an hour, if you're going to take a break and get something to eat, do laundry, whatever- rather than turn it off and back on an hour or two later.

For that reason, I try to watch things on the pj, only when I have about a 4 or 5 hour block of time free, and I don't use it for channel surfing.
They aren't as flexible as the appliance sets, but as you've found out the experience has benefits that well outweigh the limitations.

I plan on using my projector for just about everything. Including channel surfing.;) I figure it's the same principle as a rear-projection set, and people use those as "regular" tvs.

Good points, and for those reasons I recently bought a cheap used Dell M109s LED projector as a "helper" projector. I fire that up to surf the web, watch casual TV or standard DVD's. Don't have to worry about burning the ever precious bulb...

Back in 2003, when the Infocus X1 was available for about $900 is when I jumped into the PJ pool. Last year I finally upgraded to a Mits HC1500 to get into a 720x1280 HD image and went from a 6x4.5 foot 4:3 screen to an 8x4.5 16:9 screen. I've got appliances upstairs for channel surfing, but for movies it's down into my man cave and the big screen.

I agree. Once I turn the projector on, it's gonna stay on until I'm done for the evening. I'm going to use it the same way I use my Kuro now.;)

Yep i pulled the trigger last week and bought a optoma 1080p projector, i havent hooked it up yet, just waiting for screen, i had a h31 before and i sold it a few years back and have been projector less since, a 52" just does not give me a wow factor at all, i think a 52" screen would be good for a bedroom tv, but my wife doesn't think so :). I completely agree projectors rock, but you also need a pounding surround system to go with it as well to the best of both worlds.

My surround sound was complete years ago, I just upgraded to a bigger sub now my main viewing area is in the basement which is more open. Im still in love with this PJ, I was watching some crappy quality tv shows I downloaded through my xbox last night and was worried at first about such crappy source material, but I was still very impressed and happy.

My statement remains the same, all you people reading all these threads like I know I did going back and forth in your head over and over, Just go buy a PJ you will not regret it!

It's only a worry if you let it be.

When I got my first PJ, I quickly knew that I would be using it to watch everything. If that means that I have to buy a bulb every year, so be it. That translates to about $1 per day to watch a giant screen instead of a small one. Well worth it.

I just count on a new bulb as an expected expense. Voila - no worry. :)

I've had my projector for 2 years now, I have right around 2000 hours on the bulb and it still seems plenty bright. Hoping it doesn't blow out outright.

Oh and if you have the setup for a projector, just do it. Also, the screen DOES make a big difference, I went from a BOC to a High Power DaLite, was night and day in my setup (which is not light controlled, I actually usually have a lot, a lot, of light coming in.)

I think my next step will be a retail screen, I have total light control but idk what I wanna get.

I've got to second what everyone else is saying in this thread. I got my Viewsonic Pro8100 yesterday, went out to the local art supply store, and bought a piece of 60 by 40 foamcore, stuck it in front of our TV, hooked up the PS3 and fired it up. Out of the box, in a room with a lot of ambient light, it blew us all away. My wife, who was previously skeptical, stayed up half the night watching HP and the order of the Phoenix even though she had to get up early for work this morning. After viewing last night under these conditions, I can only imagine what the impact will be once I get it set up in a dedicated, light controlled room with a proper screen. It will take me a while to get it all together, but in the meanwhile I'll still be experiencing a big, beautiful image instead of what my now tiny seeming 34" diagonal ws hdtv could provide.

Get off the Fence!

Last night a couple guys who'd not seen my system stopped by and wanted to check it out. My HD65 is a light cannon but It definitely looks washed out with a decent amount of ambient light. Well I had my overhead lights and a lamp on when I was turning everything on and they were still blown away by the image. Once I turned the lights down and cranked the sound they were both in absolute awe. I really get a kick out of people seeing it for the first time, and I don't even have super awesome equipment. :)

I've been into projectors for a long time but I had the same feeling you got when I first looked at my NEC LT150z. Wow video through the air, huge and colorful. You're hooked now, enjoy it.

Here is what ive got so far, its kinda sloppy at the moment but its slowly comming together.

The mistake i made early was on an 80" screen. Once i got it i quickly began looking for the 120" now im happy. I cant believe i thought 80" would be big enough

Right on!

So many people here spend too much time nit picking about their equipment.

(I understand...some of the time I am one of them :D)

The fact of the matter is, there is amazing equipment out there. And the lower prices are allowing projector HT to enter the mass consumer markets. I'm excited to see what is in store for us in the next 5 years.

I love my 6500UB and am blown away by it nearly every time I watch.

Its good to hear that people are more than pleased.

I am in the process of beating Ocarina Of Time for the first time on a projector :D Ah...nothing like N64 at 100" LOL

...the first thing I did with my projector (Mitsu HD1000U back in '07): hooked up my dusty xbox and played Super Mario Bros (NES) on an emulator.

It was fulfilling a childhood fantasy, and it was glorious :D

I'm currently looking for another PJ as my living situation changed and the throw range on my DLP isn't quite cutting it. Has anyone in this thread (heh) changed over from an HD1000U to a LCD? Or better yet, are there any budget DLPs with 2x zooms?

Nice! :) Resident Evil 5 looks incredible...

I've kinda changed from DLP to LCD.

My friend my freshman year in college had a BenQ PE7700. A very nice 720p unit.

This is what got me into PJs. I bought a 1080UB and traded up to a 6500UB and loved them both. My PJs have more sharpness given 1080p resolution, awesome placement flexibility and better blacks...essentially better in all aspects.

You really cant go wrong...the new epson LCDs look more like a DLP PJ than LCD IMO.
