:) just wondering. I don't know anything about these. Can the tubes and lenses be robbed and put into other machines?

View Full Version : Ampro 4200, any good? draganm 07-07-09, 02:43 PM :) just wondering. I don't know anything about these. Can the tubes and lenses be robbed and put into other machines? nashou66 07-07-09, 05:57 PM Why? I hear its not a bad machine in its own right... not a 4600, but still a decent performer i assume. Athanasios Curt Palme 07-07-09, 07:39 PM Same tubes as the Sony 1292. Not rebuildable, the set is a bit old now, but the only rare board to find for these is the focus board. I finally have two spares. tse 07-07-09, 08:20 PM It was made in the early/ mid 1990's so coolant might not be as clear as you would want. If working right, 1080i/720p should look great. 1080p will project but not up to the quality of newer 9" units. Scott Mark_A_W 07-07-09, 09:12 PM Crikey, I'd give my left nut for a 9" LC 4xxx Ampro, and you want to part it out? nashou66 07-07-09, 10:18 PM The focus coils I think are the first generation Frankenyokes as well. Athanasios draganm 07-08-09, 11:45 AM Crikey, I'd give my left nut for a 9" LC 4xxx Ampro, and you want to part it out? no not really, trying to decide whether to bid on, pay freight, THEN part them out. :) Frankenyokes and lenes sound appealing but I'm not up to the hassle of 2 sets this old with 09MX tubes. nashou66 07-08-09, 12:58 PM Hmmm 09mx tubes!! I have those Thomas tubes that are the same pinouts!!! its a 5 hour drive one way.... hmmmmm :D Athanasios tse 07-08-09, 08:46 PM Unfortunately the focus mag are not the usual "Frakenyokes". They are a little smaller and the windings are both the same value (I think, 180uH each). I have a set of larger magnets with the same windings as the standard 4200 mag. One day I hope to clean the coolant chambers of the yellow coolant and install these larger magnets on my 4200. Attachment shows standard 4200 mag (left), larger prototype 4200 mag (mid), and standard Ampro focus mag (right) which is close to standard Marquee mag but without stig windings. Scott Yes the one on the right is the one that Chris Johnson used as the Frankenyoke MRK I, the KF2211. Athanasios nashou66 07-09-09, 03:22 PM So who got the twins? The auction was closed but i did not see nay one who won did it just end with no bids? Athanasios Ericglo 07-09-09, 07:06 PM Crikey, I'd give my left nut for a 9" LC 4xxx Ampro, and you want to part it out? No need to go to those lengths.:D Honestly, how big of a difference is a 9" going to be in comparison to your 135LC? For most people, not much. For the overly anal and resellers, it will make a difference Mark_A_W 07-09-09, 08:45 PM No need to go to those lengths.:D Honestly, how big of a difference is a 9" going to be in comparison to your 135LC? For most people, not much. For the overly anal and resellers, it will make a difference I've seen a G90 and a 909 now, and I estimate the improvement at about 20%. Still, I'd like a Barco 1209s or an Ampro 4600HD or something. One day. But yes, the XG-LC is very good. huggy1 07-10-09, 04:57 PM I've seen a G90 and a 909 now, and I estimate the improvement at about 20%. Still, I'd like a Barco 1209s or an Ampro 4600HD or something. Yep,seen the 909 and can get one if I wish but I see no need anymore as there is no difference in pic quality between the two.If you like tweaking the 909 is heaven however,I'm kinda over all that and the 1209s has parts galore, heck I have a full set of boards and lugs for mine. But yes, the XG-LC is very good. I think you're overestimating the image improvement by a healthy margin. For me, the biggest gain going from my NEC to the 4600HD was tube life and availablity. On my NEC, 3,000 hour tubes showed significant wear patterns. Equal light output from the 4600HD shows no wear pattern at 8,000 hours. This is what is important to me as my projector is on more than off. Color reproduction from a stock NEC kicks butt on anything else in stock form that I've seen. However, after adding red and green c-elements to my 4600HD, the color was as close as I've seen to a NEC. NavyNinja 07-15-09, 04:26 PM I am having a problem when I adjust the colors and try to align the projector. Blue tends to have a "warped" effect when I adjust the key or pin in the top left corner. Does anyone know which card is going bad or what may be the problem? draganm 07-16-09, 12:15 PM I am having a problem when I adjust the colors and try to align the projector. There's a few Ampro guys on here that can help includingCurt Palem for repairs. stefuel 07-16-09, 04:57 PM I am having a problem when I adjust the colors and try to align the projector. I don't know much about AmPro's but...Does the warped effect go away if you turn the registration off? If so the registration waveforms are most likely not lined up. There is a metal can covering part of the registration board. Under that, locate a pot labled "R4". Try turning that pot. It will move the bends off to the side. If you go to far, the bends will appear on the other side. You may find that you will have to split the difference.;) NavyNinja 07-20-09, 08:50 PM I don't know much about AmPro's but...Does the warped effect go away if you turn the registration off? Curt Palme 07-20-09, 11:35 PM I can assist with repairing the boards, I've got lots of Ampro parts as well as test chassis to fire your boards up in. Email me through the site below if you need assistance, but there are also lots of guys here quite knowledgeable with Ampros.
