a "full" trailer supposedly to be unvieled this week! :D
"hail to the king, baby!"
Scott Simonian 07-07-09, 05:19 PM Eh, pretty much a "tease" as it shows for now. Hope it's not another MechAssault.
I still have my fingers crossed for a real sequel to 'Steel Battalion' on Xbox 360. Either make an adapter for the old controller or make a new one. These days, people WILL buy a $100 controller for a single game.... I'm sure many of us are guilty of this. Hell, just my drums for RB2 were $300. [/rant]
Give me Steel Battalion!!! :D
Yup. That would be awesome!
chiliDog 07-07-09, 05:50 PM Two more short but cool videos here (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59432). I hope if this is a real MechWarrior game that it's coming to the 360.
wow!
looks like mechwarrior to me due to the little booster jump on the second vid!
Yeah baby!!! I have missed the Mechs.
According to ve3d, it's supposed to make old school pc gamers happy, so it would have to be MW.
I use to luv playing Mech Warrior, used my HOTAS for controlling the Mechs. I had almost all of the games on the PC but after a while it just ended up being a circling around blasting fight to see who lasted the longest. Every body shooting for the legs. Maybe the new version will add some surprises.
RAVEN56706 07-08-09, 08:28 AM i loved Mechassault... mechassault 2 sucked

Amen Brother.
There's an interview on IGN being posted tonight at midnight that will explain the trailer and provide some news as to the future of the game being shown.
I'm hoping for MW5, but I'm also hoping it's either PC only or Microsoft comes up with a great control scheme. Too many options in real Mechwarrior for X,Y,A,B.
mboojigga 07-09-09, 11:24 AM There are ambitious plans for this new MechWarrior. The original MechWarrior games were limited by technology; now with modern computing power, the developers are hoping to really capture the sense that you're piloting a giant, walking war machine in the middle of an incredibly dynamic battlefield. While the two companies are still talking to potential publishers that could determine the final production budget, Weisman and Bullock explained that they plan to have a full single-player campaign, as well as support for a four-player co-op campaign, and a full multiplayer suite.
The game is being developed for the PC and the Xbox 360, though there isn't any idea of a release date yet, since the game is still in the middle of development and the companies are still talking to publishers. For more information, read the interview with Weisman and Bullock. We also dissect the trailer in a Rewind Theater. Check out the gallery for the very first screens of the game anywhere. Finally, keep checking back with us as we keep a very close eye on this exciting new project.

Xbox vs PC multiplayer... please tell me I read that correctly. If you haven't installed buttkickers yet, this is the time to do so.
Also, the Xbox force feedback vest from TN Games should be out by then, making this a great excuse to sit in the HT and ignore the family.
yo yo YO!
mechwarrior 4 plus all expansions for it will be available for free.
free is free

Unless they make a Steel Battalion type controller to go with it. I am going to doubt they will be able to accomplish that. Well at least to anyone who has ever played SB that is. If you haven't then you won't know any better. :p

Well, you don't NEED a Steel Battalion controller. I used to play Mech 3 with my Sidewinder and it was pretty rad.
I think mboojigga is more speaking to the fact that they can build this open world game, with dynamic missions, and a freeform game structure, to really make it "feel" like a battlefield. And that is definitely possible.

that sounds awesome, I'm stoked.

I wasn't trying to imply that Mech Warrior won't be awesome. More so just that with that mammoth controller it kicked the realism up into high gear. I don't think they should require something like that but I think just like with the driving games they should have an option to use it. Although this is really a moot point since they aren't going to retrofit the 360 to use it and it is doubtful they will build another on in this economy. lol

i wonder how that video would look on the expensive setup they had for Forza 3 at E3. without the steering wheel of course, but include the steel battalion controller, 3 screens, butt kickers, and x-y motion. i can imagine every time the left leg would rise to walk, the left side of the seat would move in sync. that would be neat

This. Just replace the "buttkicker" with a D-Box motion simulator and you got yourself the most aweomse mech game EVAR! :p
I need something like that. :)

That looks pretty cool, and I am excited.
Hopefully they can pull off the sense of piloting a mech....my problem with these games was always that you're in a big mech....but so is everyone else, so all sense of size is lost.
The urban combat setting should help with that feel. With the older Mechwarriors, the cities were always fairly low in detail, so it seemed like you were walking through a model, and the vehicles were nowhere close to scale. This seems much better proportioned judging from the size of the Warhammer to the parking garage and the cars parked on top.
Good hot damn that trailer was awesome. It was like a better looking version of the old opening cinematics but in-game. Watching the Rifleman's PPC tear off the Warhammer's arm looked cool and left me surprised that I remembered the mech's names and their weapons :)
The first in the series was a favorite game of my childhood. The gameplay was very unique. Buying, modifying and maintaining your mechs was fun. And, recruiting and keeping your team alive was a great mechanic that I hope is important in the new version.
It also had a quirk of the times in that it was cpu synced. The gameplay would literally speed up in direct correlation with the processor's clock. You could play around with this by toggling the computer's "Turbo Button". In anticipation of Mechwarrior 2's release I installed it on my latest computer, a Pentium 60. Pressing the up arrow had me flying across the entire landscape in the blink of an eye. Amusing behavior but I was happy when MW2 arrived with my Sidewinder. Good Times!
Scott Simonian 07-10-09, 07:44 PM Mechwarrior 2 sure was a LOOONGGG time ago. Almost forgot how long it's been until I read the post above. Wow. I remember getting a special 'ATI' edition with "sharper textures" cause I was rocking a Pentium 133mhz cpu and my very first 3d-accelerator graphics card with a whopping 2mb of video ram, later to be replaced with the same card with a gigantic 4mb of ram. :p
Can't remember teh name of the maps but I remember replaying this one in particular that had you destroy some reactor in a big base and after a short time it would go critical and unleash an explosion that would send out a huge shockwave. I always knew where to stand so I wouldn't die and I would disable mechs along teh way so I could see them get obliterated by the shockwave. I seem to remember a pipeline that would head in teh direction of the base. I remember seeing that tear apart with the blast along with any unlucky mechs.
Man, those were the days. Had a blast playing it, hope they get the "feel" right if the controls must be "consolized" for this one.

Close but no cigar on the names, chief. That was a Warhammer shooting the arm off an Atlas. :) I started playing this back on Battletech: Solaris on AOL, then on Gamestorm.
Really hoping they stay true to the 3015 timeline. Not a lot of the "cheat" toys from later mechwarriors. No locking missles, no NARP, no Swarm SRMs, no LBX autocannons, no extended range anything, no gauss rifles... really a great scenario for long range softening and then close range duels.

Thanks for the correction. I should have remembered that face from the Atlas.

Which of the previous Mechwarriors came the closest to these rules?
KatManD0 07-12-09, 12:41 AM Im pretty excited for this game

You never played the 3dfx version??? It came with my Monster3D Voodoo1 card and it was amazing! One of the games to show off what 3D gaming was about. Even though I preferred the 3dfx Whiplash that came with it too. ;-)
