I have a 16x14 room that will only be used for watching sports/movies. There is one window but it will have thick window coverings shortly. I'm trying to keep my budget low on this project. I have access via BB to an Epson 6100 at that reduced price of $1599 with a $100 mail in rebate by Epson and a free replacement lamp. Based on the calculator on here, it looks like I can mount this roughly 13 feet back in the room (above my couches essentially) and get a solid picture around 100". Is this a good set based on my room size and budget for 1080p? I'll be using it for cable tv, dvd's, and Xbox 360 gaming. Also - what size screen do you reccommend for a room of that size in general?

Thanks in advance!

From what I have read on the forum and from looking at the
rebate from epson you cant use it on a projector purchased
from BB. Somone please correct me if I am wrong.

As I mentioned in another thread, I will recommend you the BenQ W5000.

It's probably a bit higher than your budget, but it's a DLP and in the long run DLP's will have lower costs. Keep in mind that when you buy a projector there are costs that will run after you, much like buying a car. You got to pay for maintanence, bulb replacements, and like anything else spare parts if the unit breaks.

DLP projectors for one, are a lot cooler and the BenQ ones are designed with a encomposing shell that blocks out dust. This means that the interior lens of the projector does not require constant cleaning, which is usually done by calling the "tech guy", as most people like us do not know how to clean it ourselves. Because DLP's are cooler in general they eliminate a large amount of risk that LCD projectors have of over heating and melting it's internal chip that may happen after a couple thousand hours.

Your Epson is a good choice, but it happens to be a LCD, while the BenQ is a DLP.

I prefer DLP's as well, but this is my opinion!

Adam, Sounds good to me! Go get it and enjoy!

For a screen size, show on your wall and see what looks good to you. 100" is a good size but you might like 120". Once you know, you can buy or make a DIY screen.

Have fun!

Welcome Adam.

What I did and have seen others here do as well is to get the pj first, then project onto a blank wall or white bedsheet to get an idea of what your desired screen size will be, then decide on a screen.

Please post what gear you end up with - some here even like screenshots - who knows what other lurkers you will convert to our HT hobby...
