Ok I was about to buy a Panasonic ae3000 today but I'm hesitant. Is there a huge difference between the Epson 6100?
I'm not a video freak so I can't tell every detail. I'm going from an offbrand 1080i 42" LCD. My basement is getting finished up and this is the final peice :)
Should I put out the extra change for the Pany ae3000 or get the Epson 6100? Just an FYI as well, I don't HAVE to have the 2.39 mode. 16:9 is fine.
Sorry for the noob questions!

Who are you trying to kid? :D
I'm paying someone to finish it right now :P
To be honest there's no stores I can find near me to go see in person the picture quality of projectors. So if someone knows of places in Kansas City, MO, let me know!!

I love my 6100, but from what I understand the Panny is a step up from the epson.
Right now at BB, the epson is $1600.

Does Best Buy have displays for their projectors? I know they sell them but I just want to see the quality of the 6100.
What's their return policy on those? Could I take one home and test it out and still return it?

There is no longer a restocking fee. I returned a Sanyo 1080p and a Mits 720p before settling on the Epson. I used a 10% moving coupon as we moved from OKC to Fort Smith.
No disply screens though.
where'd you get that 10% off coupon :)

That money-for-higher-quality issue is tough. I will say that the extra quality there is obvious only in a dark, light controlled room. So, if you plan to watch with some light on in your room, it won't make nearly the difference which of those two projectors you have. Likewise, if your room is painted white or a light color, then the difference between the projectors would be minimized. So, your degree of hard-core-ness is relevant.

Local stores in KC that have displays include
The Magnolia Store in Best Buy on 95th and Quiviria
SoundFX (near the Plaza)
Contiental Video 103rd and Metcalf (I heard they were closing)
Independence Audio and Video (out in Independence, MO)
Nebraska Furniture Mart near the race track
Then you'll have the installer groups that have some display space. You would need to call around to verify
You would be welcome to see my display (though not one of the two you listed). I have a Planar 8150 and live south of the Plaza. You also might want to bump as old Kansas City "meets" thread in the Area Home Theater Forum here. Or, there is a local hobbyist HT site that you could post seeking a local demo.

There used to be a few places going out to the airport, one was by appointment only but they had Sony VW-60s and JVC RS1s...that was a year or more ago. Look into it. Google Kansas City Home Theater projectors.
