Hi all! There is something I cannot figure that I need some advice with. This regards the difference between standard DVD audio and bluray audio. When I watch a bluray movie the bass sounds great, but when I play a DVD the bass is almost non - existent without changing any levels. Why is this and how do I correct this?

I'm assuming you're using the same player for both formats via HDMI? Also you mean DVD audio as Dolby Digital and DTS? If yes, then there shouldn't be any difference, not any meaningful anyway and not by design You might wanna check if your receiver has a separate LFE setting for each of the decoding formats. If it has make sure they all set to the same value, usually the highest level.

Note this function is different from the "SW" line output trim level you used to balance the subs compared to the rest of the speakers.

I am not sure what you mean by this??

It's also called LFE tab or LFE mix. It basically ensures that you get the right mix between redirected bass from any channel you select "small" and the content of the discrete LFE channel, which normally is 10db higher then the other channels. Not all manufacturers let's you adjust this, as it's should be left at it's default value, and don't need to be adjusted ever again. If you experiencing large differences in bass between different decoding formats, it usually means set up issues, or equipment malfunction.

Well everything is setup properly I made sure of that. The large difference is between Bluray discs and Dvd discs in the bass department. My BDP-S550 by Sony sounds amazing with Bluray, could it be that it is just not all that great for Dvd.

How's the player hooked up to the receiver?
