I have a marquee 8500 (non lc) at home mounted to my ceiling and I really dont wanna go through with the mess of trying to take it down..It has the kind of wear you expect; 8,7.5,9.

But now I got my own place far from home and I was thinking of getting myself a cheap projector for my living room and I got an offer for a sony vph 1271 with no wear for an amount equivalent to 300usd.. I know its an entry level projector so will I see a huge drop in quality compared to my marquee, which was pretty unadjusted with the color balance being nowhere near optimal. Is it worth it? If I was to take the offer I'd go pick it up today and get to see it myself.

Btw Im sorry if I hurt anyone here when I made some provocative remarks here a few years ago. Im 19 now and I have matured significantly since then.:)

Funniest post here ever, I think. :D

If it has no wear, then sure,. go for it. It's a very reliable set, and should last a few years.

I have a 1251q as my home theater projector, and it is great. Now, I have never seen an EM set in action so don't know what I am missing, but compared to the 10-12 digitals I have seen it can definatly hold it's own. It easily beats a majority of them in color accuracy and contrast.

Just make sure the tubes are in good shape and the unit has low hours for that price. Be forwarned though that even if the tubes look good, if the unit has high hours it may not be able to focus well.

300 is kind of expensive, but if your 8500 didn't have color filtered lenses, the 1271's color will blow it out of the water. The 1271 I got on a lark after I got my Barco 808s spoiled me on color so much that I obsessively tracked down a way to color filter the 808; there was a point where I considered swapping them just to get the color!

I am biased towards Marquees, but depending on what mods you've done to it, why wouldn't you just get it off the ceiling and take it with you? $300 bucks can get you some nice mods, maybe even a downpayment towards some HD-145s...

Sparky015 has a nice idea. Why don`t you get some mods for MArqees. I have seen spiderman on marquees the image quality was excellent. Just get it off the ceiling and take it with you.........
