Anyone know where I can get a, preferrably cheap, RS232 to USB cable to access and unlock ISF modes on the 9G PRO-111FD?

ChrisWiggles 07-10-09, 10:46 PM You need a crossover 232 cable and a USB to 232 adapter. They are available at best buy, and I'll bet there are other sources as well. I think retail at BBY is close to $30 for the USB-232 adapter. There are likely cheaper options out there, but I'm not aware of any, maybe someone else will chime in. That being said, I've not had good luck getting the USB-232 adapter to work well with the pioneers, I use a laptop dock with 232 out directly. But the adapters work well with many other 232 devices, and I don't know what computer you have, so who knows... turbe 07-11-09, 01:01 AM Actually, for the Pioneers, you need a Straight-Through configured Serial Cable (not Null-Modem / cross over), DB9 Female. If you had two Null Modem / Cross Over cables, you could connect them together (with the proper adapter) X + X equals = As Chris posted, there are issues with many of the USB Serial Adapter unfortunately... ChrisWiggles 07-11-09, 11:24 AM I've always used crossover cables on the pioneers. It depends on the source 232 that you're using though, whether you need that or not, so it will depend on what your computer is. turbe 07-11-09, 11:53 AM I've always used crossover cables on the pioneers. Chris, I'm not sure what adapter (perhaps changing from DTE to DCE) you are using but it's Pioneer's documentation: All 2008 plasma display models use a “Straight” or “Pass-Through” Cable http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/PUSA/Files/2008%20Elite%20TV%20RS-232C%20Protocols.pdf Pioneer is expecting the other end to be DTE (standard for PC's) ChrisWiggles 07-11-09, 12:39 PM But if the other end isn't, you just use a crossover cable. Not a big deal. In my case I have to use a crossover cable from my laptop's docking station. alexsquared 07-11-09, 12:58 PM I haven't tried specifically with the pioneed, but belkin's adapters have historically worked well for when connecting to most serial devices. derekjsmith 07-11-09, 01:23 PM Here is the one we use from Monoprice, it works with XP/Vista without any problems: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10311&cs_id=1031104&p_id=2276&seq=1&format=2 SierraMikeBravo 07-11-09, 01:48 PM The Keyspan adapters work just great as well. Datacolor was including the Keyspans for the Pioneers in their SpyderTV Pro 2007 and Colorfacts packages. I have switched the Keyspan between two laptops and have calibrated about 20 Pioneers with it without a single problem. Gregg Loewen 07-12-09, 08:34 PM hi guys the only Pioneers that require a cross over cable is the 1410 and the old 730HDI crt RPTV. All others are straight. |
