My LG BH200 will not play or eject the dvd in the unit. When I power the unit on, it loads up and states it is reading the disk, but this goes on for Infinity and will not even allow me to power it down...have to pull the power cord.

When I replug the unit in, it starts this cycle all over again....boots up, then totally locks while trying to read the disk (can't stop it, eject it, call up menu or shut it down with remote or power button)!

I'm ready to send it to LG for repair, but thought I may have over looked a simple solution that someone else may have discovered before!?

Any suggestion are greatly appreciated! :)

Unplug it, plug it back in and hit the eject (not the power) button.

If that doesn't work, you can open up the unit (I assume it's no longer under warranty) and force the tray open with a screwdriver.

How long have you waited when it's "stuck" I think after 5 minutes of not being able to read a disc a watchdog timer will eject the disc. I'm not sure how long this is, but it happened to me once, I left the player sitting there, forgot all about it for a while and when I returned the disc tray was opened with the disc sitting out for my taking.

Tried all of this after re-powering unit (hitting eject during the whole time of boot-up and reading disc), but it still gets stuck on trying to read the disc!!

It is still under warranty, so I'll send in to LG 1st before putting the sledge hammer to it!

Thanks for the input,

Jeff,

I've walked away for as long as 30 minutes one time and came back to "Reading Disc"...with no control action by ANY button on the remote or the BH200 front panel (even the power button)...Still had to unplug it to shut it down with the disc stuck in the closed tray!

Only good news is it has 10 months of warranty left, so looking like LG is going to have to fix this one! :o

Ted, I don't think you read what I said. You re-powered the unit! I said plug it back in then hit the eject button. Don't touch the power button. If you hit the eject button first, it won't try to read the disc.

Not being familiar with the unit, does it have the small pinhole for poking a paperclip into to open the drawer? If it does, turn the power off and push a paperclip in, it will push the tray out then.

Maybe give it an hour, I know when I watched it never happened. I forgot all about it for several hours and came back to the surprise that the disc was sitting out in the open.

Thanks Allargon,

After I plug the BH200 back in, hitting the "eject" button 1st starts the units' power up-boot up cycle, just as if I had hit the power button 1st!?

Not sure if it's suppose to work like this...even a persistent pressing of the eject button will not open the tray, unit keeps trying to load the disc. I'll try leaving it read the disc as Jeff suggested....Over an Hour!

More than likely the unit is not going to eject the disc, the mainboard is defective and is stuck in "read" mode. There is always the possibility it will eject, either way the unit needs to be repaired.

If I recall correctly the BH200 does not have a pin hole to eject the disc out.

My player that had the mainboard error that went in for repair was the one that spit out the disc, there's hope...

And you are correct, no pinhole. You can pull open the door, but the tray is locked in place, only the gears moving will free it.

I spoke to LG CS and they suggested I unplug the unit and press and hold the power button for at least 20 seconds. This is suppose to reset the unit. Once plugged back in, I pressed the "open" button which started the boot-up sequence, then the BH200 Ejected the Disk!!! :D:D:D

It played a std. DVD, no problem, then went through an HD-DVD, no problem. It started out fine with blu-ray, but then locked on a scene up 75% of the way through...:mad:

Powered the unit down, but now when powered back up, it wouldn't eject the blu-ray, just kept trying to read the disk (forever)! After much fuse and many power down cycles, 20 second resets and power back up actions, it Finally opened the tray and allowed me to access the player menu.

Got on the LG site and downloaded the latest firmware (March 09'). The upload was simple and straight forward. Powered the unit back up and loaded a std. DVD in and it seemed to be playing good. When I went to eject the disk....NO LUCK, Stuck again!!!

After fooling with the player for several hours, Finally called LG back to get a R&R # to let Them Fix It!!!!!!! :o

It is on it's way and I'll report back the quality-speed-function of the repaired player.

Thanks to all for the great suggestions and help!

Received my BH200 back from LG repair in less than 2 weeks. :D So far, it plays HDM's and S. DVD's just fine! ;)

Just FYI... the "press and hold the power button" or pressing the power button several times, is an important step to remember with ANY electronic devices. The reason why is that pressing the power button attempts to power up the unit, when it's not connected to anything the capacitors which may have stored energy will likely be discharged. Without doing this any lingering charge could keep things like the memory alive, thus preventing a true reset.

I wrote up a big description about this in the ReplayTV section about 6 or 8 years ago. The other sometimes important step is to disconnect every other cable because they can carry electricity (optical is the only that can't).
