Somehow my little brothers xbox live game profile got deleted from his xbox. He turned it off and an hr later when he turned it on it was gone. Well he forgot his password to his windows live account. The problem is the email that was used to create the account is no longer a valid email. It was locked and deleted by our isp due to identity theft. So, he cannot reset his password now either. Of course customer service was no help. They cannout give out passwords and told me to call windows live, which conveinently doesnt have a number to call. How can we reset and or find out his password?

I'm actually pleased that you aren't able to make any progress. If you could still recover after all this crap without knowing a single password, anyone could destroy anyone else's account with a small amount of social engineering.

Well actually you can. I found out who has access to the password server so I'm giving customer service another call. I'll update when I have an answer.

If they properly encrypt and salt the passwords, then all passwords are one-way encrypted and there's no way to determine the original password. With proper social engineering, one can convince them to reset the password to a known/default value, but usually that then requires receiving an e-mail at the registered e-mail address.

Otherwise, imagine if you could call in and claim to be anyone and get that person's password... This is exactly the sort of social engineering that Microsoft has been attempting to train their people to avoid.
