Hello,

I am in the process of wiring my HT room for surround sound. I installed a 5.1 wall plate in the front of the room where the component rack and the TV will be located.

For the wall that the surround sound speakers will be on, I will be running wires through the wall to them, but I would like to avoid using the wall plates to finish the wires because they are so large! What are some alternatives that I could use to make the installation of the wire for rear speakers look professional? Do most people use wall plates for surrounds, or just let the wire dangle and use some caulking to fill in the gaps around the wires?

Thanks!

-Steve

You could do a wall plate with a hole in it, and paint the plate:

Are you painting the wall/ceiling where the wires will be poking out of? If you could make a hole just big enough for the wire, and then paint the wire the same as the ceiling/wall, that might not look too bad. I like to avoid going through plates as much as possible because that is one connection that creates an opportunity for signal loss. I prefer wires going from point A to point B, with no stops in between.

If the room is carpeted come up from under the carpet at the base of the wall.

I think I am gonna go with just making a hole big enough for the wire and then painting the wire to match the color of the wall.

I'm running wire now for the rear surrounds - I'm just going to have the wire dangling and poke a hole in the sheetrock and pull it through.

For the fronts - I'm going to use wall plates though.
