Crap! So close yet so far away lol. Today my new bulb replacement shows up and I've been pumped all day but of course not off the hook yet and things not lookin good. Projector worked fine untill the old bulb went out but when I installed the new one for some reason I just get a blank kind of white screen with no menus or anything. I thought just in case it was the bulb I would try the old bulb as it still can fire up for a few minutes but came up with the same blank white screen. Has any one heard of this or have any suggestions? I hope it's not pooched, that would sure suck considering I now have a brand new bulb.

Somebody please heeeeelp meeeeee ahhhhhhhhh!!!! lol.

May sound like a dumb question, but is there a counter on your projector that needs to be reset?

at this point of time I can't reset anything as I have no menus or anything other then blank screen.

I don't know if this info helps any but probably couldn't hurt. When I first fired it up(since new bulb) it first had the blue screen for a minute but it was being scrammbled like crazy untill finally just the blank screen. I'm screwed aren't I ? lol As I write that can't help but not have a bad feeling. Any ideas anyone?

lol. although in denial I had a bad feeling that message was inevitable. Could anyone tell exactly what the problem is? I see broken ones(ae-900's) all the time for sale on e-bay and just wondering if it's possibly something I might be able to fix myself? i'm not going down yet without at least abit of a fight. In fact their is one right now on with a dead main board, or is that what I have? Any other help out there?

Don't do it. It is very likely that your problem IS in the main board. You reported a white screen uncluttered with any image or menu. That tells me that the LCD panels are working, ALL pixels are "on", they're being driven. If they weren't, they would be "off", they same effect as muting the image or not having a source connected.

So the "disconnect" has to be in the image processor section which is usually on the main board.

Unless it's under warranty it will probably cost more to fix it than the projector is worth.

*sigh* Ok, thx for the info. Time to start saving I guess.

I guess the main question now is: to 1080P or to not. I hoping for 2 more years with my 900 and figured that sounded like good enough time to go 1080p but to do it right now still seems rather pricey compared to some of the quality 720p's for fairly reasonable prices.

If you can find a Sharp DT-500 or 510 for around 6-7 bills it should hold you over until prices come down for 1080p DLP.

Thx alot skor I'll look into that. How do they compare to the Panasonic PT-AX200U that I keep hearing so many good things about?

Consider Epson Home 720, or Mits 1600. Since it sounds like you don't mind buying used perhaps you can find Epson 1080 for around 1k or less. My buddy just sold an Epson 1080 for 800 bucks so you can find good deals out there.

thx for the stellar adavice Sherardp. And yes you are right, I am strongly considering going used for hopefully a couple more years untill the next upgrade.
