I just installed LIRC on a freshly installed Ubuntu Minimal install and on startup I see this:

Starting Remote Control Daemon(s): LIRC [FAIL]

However, when I start IRW I am seeing output that I would expect from my mce remote AND my remote works just fine in XBMC. So is this really a problem?

No, I think I get the same thing on Mythbuntu boot. If it works why worry.:-)
