My HVAC contractor told me he could get me linacoustic. "It" arrived today, and it isn't linacoustic--it is Knauf Duct Liner E-M. It looks the same, but I have no idea if it is a good substitute or if there are any reasons not to use it.

Anyone have experience with it, and is it essentially the same as linacoustic?

It is a compressed fiberglass insulation mat. The JM Linacoustic RC has a coating on one side. For it's original purpose it minimizes the passing air steam's ability to pick up loose fibers. For our use you mount the coating facing the room which is counter intuitive, but it works.

If it is "duct liner" it should be just fine. It would have to have a method of controlling the air movement problems of the fiberglass.

I had my HVAC contractor grab it at an HVAC supply store. That is why I ended up with Knauf instead of Linacoustic (he felt they were the same). That said, it is now up on the screen wall and it clearly tamed the room a bit.

Of course, he got me 100 ft, and I probably only need 20 ft max. Guess I will see about using it for some panels later.

I didn't really. The only amount that was readily available was a 100ft roll. I think it was about $200. I needed it right then, and figured I would find some uses for the extra (I have since decided to actually line some of my ductwork in order to soften echos (I have a dedictated HVAC system, but the duct work still runs close to some other rooms).

I knew I needed enough to cover the entire front wall and the inside portions of my screenwall built-in--probably 20-30 ft.

I may use some in some future wall panels, and then the rest will likely hit the dumpster. Wasteful, but after a year of renovations I have reached the "just get it done" point. Couldn't wait for a 50ft roll to come in.
