A relative of mine set up his HT with his Mit. 57" DLP on the long wall. I suggested that the tv should go on the short wall with the usual 5.1 setup. His basement is about 25x15 with a long sofa and 2 short chairs, 1 on each side. I feel that he could switch the setup to the short wall and build a riser for the extra chairs.. Should I let him see some members gallerys or let it be?

It is a home TV room not a theater, let it be. A riser for second row seating and a 57 inch display would be a bit misdirected. Now of course if you want to encourage him to go FP then bring out the evidence for creating a Theater.
I agree - sounds like the room will support a Theater in the Home. He should stay oriented to the length of the room with a projector and screen so Theater can occur.
