View Full Version : Remotes that will work with Dish Network receivers

I am wondering if there is a learning remote that will learn the codes for the Dish receivers. I have 4 receivers in my home. They are set up so that each receiver's signal is modulated on a different tv channel. I can go to any tv in the house and watch any of the 4 signals. The problem is that each receiver has its own address. So I need a different remote for each receiver in each room. I'm hoping that there is a remote that I can use to switch from one address to another so as to control the system with one remote in each room. It would also be nice if they wern't IR.
Thanks Jeff

If you want to save money, 4 JP1 remotes, 4 next gen RF systems and a JP1 cable will run you under $200 total. No learning required in that case either. 4 Harmony 890's, each with it's own RF extender will run you well over $1000. If you go the JP1 route, I'd load the "extender" so you can easily multiplex among your 4 receivers. Links in my sig explain JP1. Takes more programming skills than harmony, but is super quick and easy to load the same config to multiple remotes.

I answered this post and then read your other posts and realized that my answer didn't really address your actual question.

In your other posts you said you had two dual Dish DVRs. (Likely 622 or 722?) I suspect that if there is an elegant solution that it will be found in a Dish VIP 622/722 Forum. Normally the Dish dual channel receivers control TV1 tuner with IR and the TV2 tuner with RF.

I have two 622 Receivers but I don't see a way to do what you want. I also have a Harmony 890 PRO that uses Logitech's proprietary RF to send control to a proprietary RF wireless extender. That extender would have no problem with the different IR addresses, but as I said I believe that I believe TV2 on each of the two receivers must be controlled by Dish's proprietary RF.

I'll be interested to see if anyone has a good workable approach.

Best of luck.

And that wouldn't work anyway. ;)

I know nothing about the JP1 Remote. :)

And that wouldn't work anyway. Now that you've clarified it, no it wouldn't. My JP1 solution won't work either. Never mind.

Hi thanks for all your interest.

As I understand it each of my 4 tuners have a remote that is linked to it via a common, unique address. These addresses are assignable.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to program a learning remote to send the proper signals to the dish receivers.

Then select one of the component buttons (sat,TV,VCR,aux) on the remote and assign a different address (#4,#6,#2,# 8) to each button.

So then to view programing on tuner"A" with address #4 you could push the aux button, say with address #4 assigned to it, telling the remote to control tuner "A".

If you wanted to control tuner "B" you would choose the button that was assigned the same address as tuner"B" and so on.

Right now each tuner is modulated to a different TV channel. Tuner "A"=60, tuner"B"=62 etc. So I just set TV to one of these chanels an can view, but at this time not control, the programs on the tuner on that channel.

I'm not at all versed in customizing a learning remote. Does this sound possible?

Thanks Jeff

You could do what you describe if you had four separate dish IR controlled Tuners in the same room. The problem is associated with the fact that two of your tuners are controlled by a Dish proprietary RF signal. It is not Dish being difficult, it is simply a result of the fact that there is no RF industry standard for RF control of A/V equipments. (There are a few "sorta" standards such as Z-wave but these are limited and generally apply to lighting and fan-control.)

The reason that I suggested going to a Dish forum is that in the back of my mind I seem to remember reading recently of a new Dish remotw that could allow IR control of TV2. If this is the case, you could have your Dish receiver both set to IR control for both TV1 and TV2.

You now could use a Harmony 890 PRO in each room with a RF wireless extender in each of the two rooms containing the Dish receivers. You could have four events - Watch CH-60, Watch CH-62, etc.

Maybe there are video distribution systems that can be controlled by rf remotes. This might work if all of your coax is "home-runned.

Note 1: This would be super expensive!

Note 2: I do not know if four 890 PRO's can even be paired with two different RF wireless receivers at the same time.

PS You should note that all of the viewing on CH60, 62, etc is SD with any HD being down-rezed to SD by the Dish receiver.

I've been posting to a couple of diff forums, Logitech and DBS hoping I can stirrup any Ideas.

I'll look into your suggestions and pass them along to any responses I get on the other forums.

I'll let you know if anything comes to the top.

Thanks Jeff
