Just got back from the Chicago stop of the tour at Union Station. This is a big promotion by Disney and I think it's going to pay off for them when the movie hits the theater on November 6th. The tour is huge and has 42 stops. It started in LA and will end in NY on October 30th. My wife and I got there fairly early and yet there was still a long line to view the items on the train from the movie. There were costumes, interactive things to do and explanations of the 3D technology used. It took about and hour or so to get inside the train. When we exited the train there was a huge line and made me very glad that we came early. Afterwards we viewed a 15 minute digital 3D presentation in a rubber blown up building. The 3D part was great and they are using the technology used in The Polar Express (actual actors digitally mapped). I'm big on 3D, and it did what I'm sure Disney wanted it to do which was stir interest in the film.

As I said they are spending a ton of money on this promotion and it's the biggest promotion for a movie that I've ever seen. The next stop is St. Louis (7/31-8/2). If anyone wants more tour dates let me know and I'll post the schedule that's on the back of a flyer they are handing out. Disney and other studios are pumping 3D for all it's worth. I'm more than glad as I look forward to having the same standards applied for home use. This tour should boost 3D even further as it's drawing in families who will be looking for something safe to take the kids to during the upcoming holiday season and who were sold on the 3D presentation. The kids in the showing I attended were wowed and you know what that means.
