I have an onkyo 6100 and am looking to replace the front 3 sometime over the next couple of months. http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=HT-S6100&class=Systems&p=s

1) the reciever is rated for 8 ohms but I've read that it would be ok to get speakers that were 6 ohms. However, I did email onkyo and they said stick with 8ohm. I'm just wondering if it would be ok to open up my search for 6 ohm speakers too.

2) My gut tells me not to, but would there be a problem with running 6ohm front 3 and the surrounds as 8 ohms until I'm able to upgrade them?

Thanks

its fine
the further up the line you go the better
make sure your avr space is well ventillated

ok that's what I was hoping. What about mixing the ohm rating throughout the system??

Any other comments are welcome.

as long as you stay above 6 you should be fine--no worries. you might want to look at some higher efficiency speakers (90db/w/m or better) to make the most of the avrs output. how big is your room?
