A Drum Roll Please…..

After a weekend of hard work and many drafts, I believe we have the design down for the newest member of the HT Demo family. Before I continue, I want to extend a HUGE “Thank You” to our official HD demo graphic designer Audixium/Erik. I believe his work speaks for itself.

Official Disc Name: HD Preview Disc: Combination Series I

Main Menu (Draft)
http://swithey.gotdns.org/swithey/ht/avs/HDPreview-Mainv1.jpg (http://swithey.gotdns.org/swithey/ht/avs/HDPreview-Mainv1-Full.jpg)
(Click on picture above for Full-Size Version)

Comments: We’ve expanded the categories to include LFE, Surround, Eye Candy, and Music.

LFE Category (Draft)
http://swithey.gotdns.org/swithey/ht/avs/HDPreview-LFEv1.jpg (http://swithey.gotdns.org/swithey/ht/avs/HDPreview-LFEv1-Full.jpg)
(Click on picture above for Full-Size Version)

Comments: Please note that the movies pictured above are not necessarily the ones that will be used on the final disc. This is just a representation of what it will look like. As far as navigation, the idea will be that you select the DVD cover along the bottom and the info above changes based on that selection. The picture at the top will actually be an 8-10 second video loop of the scene you are about to view.

Background Images: Yes, that is SandmanX/Ruben's room in the background. We are still awaiting permission to use it on the final disc. The plan is to use various AVSers HT rooms as background throughout the disc. The backgrounds will be randomized so we can use a number of different theaters on the DVD. If you would like yours considered for the DVD, please PM me a link where I can download a high-resolution version of your room (ideally 1920x1080 or higher). We’ll want your “money shot” – most commonly from the rear looking toward the front at an angle (similar to what we have now).

Is this still the menu(s) for the project? Just curious. Also keep in mind that PIP requires a small clip of each Demo Clip that in turn east up the limited space we already have.

Superleo the plan is to use the same menus as the original because in my opinion they look awesome.

As a person that has manually made 2 full blu-ray demo discs which includes the building of the menu's from scratch and collecting the content, at 9 gigs, you need the space.

Not to mention the extra authoring headache. The MENU does look good, certainly better than mine, but it has to remain functional and it also has to fit within the 16MB buffer limitation of HDMV authoring unless you are going to author it in java which is even a more limited skill set.

With 9 gigs (really I think it's 8.4) you're looking at less than 8 clips as it is without things eating up more space.

We have sorted the clips we are going to use for this disc, however now we need to source the content.

Taken from the original post...

If you have a beefy PC with an installed Blu-Ray player and would like to provide content, please PM me (akis2001). We need to keep this part of the project free of AVS Science because of the grey nature of this endeavor. More details will follow outside of the forum. Please DO NOT ask questions about this process in the thread as those posts will be deleted by the moderator.

Been quiet on this thread...

Has it really taken over a month just to source the content?

If there's anyway I can help, my resources are at your disposal. :)

Same here, If I can be of any help.

Just keep in mind that the max you can probably have on a DVD DL would be around 35 to 38 minutes.

Oh Boy. The Torrent links are out there, but yes, they are buried a bit. Here is the V2 one... Just click on the Download and Donate link. I recommend donating too and not just leaching....
ScubaSteve's Demo Blu-Ray v2 (http://brdemo.chocolateboxphoto.com/#/home/)

V1 is out there somewhere too. I just haven't found it in all of the posts yet...

EDIT: This is the V1 link...
Demo Blu-Ray v1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?nipt85vd1hi1igs)

Be sure, especially with V1, to burn the right folder. The filename of the RAR files is the same as the main folder of the Blu-Ray disc, so when you unrar, either extract it to a different folder name (NOT the same as the file name) or just extract to the current location. Otherwise you will end up with a BDMV/BDMV/ (doubled up) folder and if you grab the wrong one it won't work.

Basically, be sure to pay attention to what you are doing.

V2 also has some folders that are empty that I believe are missing. Be sure to check the beginning of that thread to see what you need to add. Not perfect in either case, but just make sure that the folder structures are right, and you will be OK.

Hey nickbuol! THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH FOR THOSE LINKS!!!!

I combed scubasteves the thread from beginning to end at least 2 or 3 times and I couldn't find squat as far as links went. The 1's I did find were dead, and posts that referred to links were themselves so old, that the links they referred to had simply fadded away into digital nothingness LOL

If there is interest, I might have something to share.

No it would be full 1080 and lossless audio, Top and Popup menus, however on DVD DL media.

The max would be around 35 minutes.

That's plenty long for a demo disc, IMO. You're right though, re some players not being able to handle it.
Because the dvd standard doesn't allow for the high 1080p bitrates. IIRC dvd max is ~14mps.

I'd sure like to give it a try.

I put it out there to see the response and if it would be worth the trouble. I only see 5+ responses.

My project is actually 5 BD9 discs; Bass, animation, surround, visual and music. Each part has around 35 minutes of clips, eight clips per section. Plus a BD50 with everything in one disc.

You can go to the link below to get an example of what it looks like...

Yup. got both version 1 and 2. Really liked the 2nd one that had the test-pattern as well. I do like the screenshot that SuperLeo posted that had the slick cover-art for the movies clip. Now, if it can be animated like the PS3, it will be even better :)

It surly can be done to have animation on BD menus. I tried it on some test menus, but you are very limited on how elaborate or complicated the menu can be, and I does not work on menus such as these ones.

Don't know how the pros do it, maybe coding menus on Java, at least with my limited knowledge can not make it possible.

These menus have some sort of interactivity, as you move left or right the details of the selected clip come up.

I have 4 sections ready and the last one on the works. The BD50 will come once ALL the sections are released individually. My intent, if there is interest, would be to release a section every 2 to 3 weeks apart to give enough time for download and comments.

And of course the initial time to set up a new thread with/and explanations on how all this will work.

If you use the disc "as is", per se, you are correct Sonys and some Panasonic (I believe) will not play HD content on DVD (BD9), however there is a patch that can be apply and it will play, tricks the player on believing that the disc is a AVCHD disc, although it losses the PopUp menu options with the patch.

The files needed to make it play on Sonys will be included if that is what is needed.

Is there some where to download that patch ? How do you install it , or does it need to be on the disc itself?
Sorry to ask, but i currently have one that will not play on my BDP-S550.
It was from someone here but i do not remember who.

Is there some where to download that patch ? ...

Just do a search for AVCHD Patcher 1.06.

The disc file structure needs to be on you harddrive, then you just drag the INDX file into the patcher; the patcher changes the index file and the movie file and creates a backup file for these files. You also need to copy these patched files to the backup folder to replaced the ones there. Then you are ready to burn and test.

One more important thing, the 0100 index version needs to be used for the Sony players.

Hiya SL, is this the patch needed to fix that last disc I pulled down from you? We were never able to get that to work other than on a computer, but this sounds like just the thing. I gather you found a way to resolve the problem?

Odd that there were no problems with the first disc...

Human nature is to blame something or someone else for errors... most likely caused by our own mistakes, as the case in point...

That patch will not fixed the last disc you have. As a matter of fact that disc did not play due to the patch and it being applied incorrectly, or as testing different things with that patch.

Also the first disc that you have has been re-authored to match the menus of the rest of the discs.

I believe that there is a folder in the server with the correct Index and Movie files, you can download those and copy them to the root and backup folder.

How about free!

If /when we start a thread for it you will be able to down load it and burn it yourself, thus the intent on having it on DVD-DL. Then if you have a BD burner you could have all the segments in one disc.

Menu Buffer?

Or 4 completely separate Menus? I tried going with separate menu's cause of the buffer but it was just too laggy for my tastes.

Good luck.

It actually has 6 menus. One Top menu and 5 category menus. I actually managed 10 pages per menu, however the buffer is maxed out at 98%, so can't add anything more. I'm sure that someone with graphics expertise might be able to squeeze a little more into those .... I'm just a curious geek wanting to know how these things work. I am sure too that there are tricks to Scenarist that I'm unaware of. I've enjoyed the process, believe it or not, although you are absolutely correct, that it is not for the average user.

Thanks for your help and for the inspiration on trying something like this... I could had just copy your disc, change the cover, claim that is mine, and sell it in India :p

If Scubasteve has 2 demo discs, and Superleo is working on his own, what's the deal with this one. The original guy dropped out, some other guys picked it up, and now it looks like those dudes dropped out and there is another set of people working on it. What has been the hold up?
