I saw this mentioned in POST magazine July 2009.
Everything was shot in anamorphic 16:9 SD.
nine 22-minute episodes culled from 1700 hours of footage!
I thought I'd check out the show.

This is not reality… This is real. We’ve taken away the producers, directors and camera ops to give viewers College Life -- a completely self-produced, groundbreaking series following students as they embark on their freshman year of school
in a way never before seen on television. Shot at the University of Wisconsin, Madison by the students themselves,

Erin Sperling, a University of Arizona senior, says the first episode was “pretty spot-on” in terms of portraying freshman year at a large university. “It’s one of the first college productions that doesn’t just glorify college as parties and the opposite sex.”

Amateurish camerawork. At least it is in 16:9. This reminds me why the audio microphones worn on reality TV is important. Even on shows like The Amazing Race. On this you hear a lot of air conditioning fans and they subtitle a lot.

I'm not a fan of "fake" reality shows either (or reality shows in general), but sometimes the "professional" aspects help.
