I saw that someone locally has a Sony KV-36XBR450 for sale and I was wondering if someone knows if it's a widescreen TV or a standard. Any help would be great. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I saw those reviews and specs earlier but I'm still confused because it says both 4:3 and also 16x9 enhanced. If I send an HD widescreen signal to this TV will it be in widescreen or will it have black bars?

It's 4:3.... ;)

16:9 enhanced is vertical compression

Ok. What does the 16x9 enhanced mean then? Just curious

16:9 enhanced is vertical compression

So it basically stretches the picture to fit the screen?

So it basically stretches the picture to fit the screen? It doesn't stretch anything for 16:9 enhanced mode. The 1080 lines are compressed from the 4:3 aspect down to a 16:9 aspect. The result is black bars, consisting of unscanned tube, above and below the 16:9 window. The feature is automatically engaged by the set for "enhanced for widescreen/anamorphic" SD DVDs and the DVD set for 16:9 tv type. It is also auto-engaged for HD inputs.
