Bob,
What you need are the codes that place your remote into "discrete mode". I went through the same thing with my new Mitsubishi.

PM me your email address and I'll send you the pdf document I've downloaded containing instructions for placing your TV remote into/out of discrete mode.

Once in discrete mode, learn the IT codes to your Harmony.

Regards,
Spence

Spence, thank you very much for your reply. I never got an e-mail letting me know you responded. I will PM you now.

So, after 5 WEEKS to the day, Harmony Customer Service comes through and added the zillion discrete commands to my Onkyo 3008. I truly thought I was never going to hear back from them, but they finally did...

Hello all.
I'm new to the Harmony 900 world and after several days have the remote pretty well set up to do what I need.
One thing, however. I have two DirecTv dvrs in my a/v cabinet. When setting them up, I set them to turn off and on with discrete codes. I have even "taught" them while doing the setup. The discrete codes however, do not work and I have had to reset them using the "toggle" codes.
I would much prefer discrete codes but am confused as to why they will not work.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
BTW, is the "white screen of death" I have seen discussed a really widespread problem?

Do you have one of the DirecTV DVR set to a different command set so that using your 900 to control one of them doesn't also control the other. What model DirecTV DFR do you have? I have had many different DirecTV DVRs both SD and HD, I now have 4 HD DVRs and have never had a problem using the discrete PowerOn and PowerOff commands for any of the units.

I have two Monster Omnilinks and two Monster AVL100 remotes. Does anyone know if TWO remotes are supported for the same system? For a long time, I used a single remote with two Omnilinks, and it worked fine; I added a 2nd remote, and that works OK, but now the original remote won't send RF.

I am controlling an HR20-700 and an HR21-700.
They are working fine as separate activities, but I cannot get the devices set to turn on and off using the discrete codes, only the power toggle will work.
I wonder if I should just delete these two activities and start over.

Only one remote can be paired per Omnilink, if that's what you're asking.

I have following questions on using 900 remote.

1. How do I verify if remote is thinking particular device as RF or infrared. I added switch controller and need to verify it is using Infrared. I think is something assign devices from remote not from software. I am not sure how to get to it.

2. When i press "all off", I want light to be on. Is it possible?

Thanks for your time.

My Harmony 900 stopped working earlier this week. It's 13 months old, and nothing happens when I pick up the remote, press any buttons or place it in the cradle. The screen is blank and remains off.

I tried removing the battery and it is stuck.

Logitech has yet to respond to my support inquiry on their website 4 says ago. Once they respond, are they likely to tell me there's nothing they can do since more than a year has passed since my purchase?

Also, if I need to purchase a new remote, can I hook up the IR blasters I already have to a Harmony One (in order to save money), or would I need to purchase a new 900 to retain IR functionality?

Thanks for your help.

Is it stuck because it is swelled? If so it is dead.

Yes, it seems the battery swelled. Any ideas what Logitech is offering for just out of warranty remotes? Thanks.

Logitech has replaced the whole remote if the battery is stuck in the case, even if it is 3 years old.

Hi,

I want to achieve something which I have no clue if it is possible. I own a USB-UIRT device, a Logitech Hamony Remote 900 and I use Eventghost. With this combination of hard- and software I am able to do things I want like controlling Media Player Classic and XBMC. These kind of software contain KEYBOARD SHORTCUT possibilities so when I eg. set-up Media Player Classic to PLAY with CTRL+P i can assign a remote button to this via Eventghost. But I have one software package (D-Box software) from which I want to be able to control a few sliders with my Logitech Harmony 900. The problem is that these sliders can be only be adjusted by dragging them with my mouse so no keyboard shortcuts are available for eg. sliders + or slider -

Is there a possibility to have my remote/eventghost/USB-UIRT work so that I can adjust the silders with my remote?

Here s a picture of the sliders I want to control so you guys understand what I want:

I have two FIOS boxes stacked on top of each other. I purchased the Precision IR cables but am having an issue with the IR bleeding.

I used electrical tape and COMPLETELY covered the IR emitter on the top box, however it is still controlling both boxes.

Does anyone have any tips to isolate the signal on these?

Have you tried moving them away from each other to see if the dual control stops. That might be your option...

I completely covered the screen on the bottom box with my hand and it blocked the IR signal.

Unfortunately due to space constraints in the closet the boxes really need to be on top of each other.

I guess I could completely tape off the screen of the box to block all bleeding, but that is not ideal.

I'm not sure if this helps you or not. I have a Fios (Motorola) HD cable box (QIP7100) and it has the 'IR Input' plug on the back. I've found out that this IR Input doesn't work with any direct connect 3.5mm (1/8") type connection to the Harmony RF box.

http://www.motorola.com/Video-Solutions/US-EN/Products-and-Services/Video-Consumer-Premise-Equipment/Set-Top-Accessories/IR+Extender+Cables_US-EN

What you can do though is call Verizon and tell them you need a couple of the IR extender cables for your boxes. These extenders are 3.5mm on one end and an 'eye' on the other end. They should just send them to you for free.

Apparently these shut off the front 'eye' on the box when you plug them in. I wanted my remote to control the Fios box as discretely as possible since the IR direct connect to my Harmony RF box wouldn't work. I took the 'eye' end of the extender cable and one of the blasters from the Harmony RF box and put them into a little box with each other, and taped it up so it was perfectly sealed dark. Now I know my Fios box is only receiving the RF signal from my remote.

Thank you - I was actually thinking about this earlier but had no idea if it would work or not.

I called Verizon charges for the IR Extenders, $16 shipped.

I will update once I get the extenders.

Call them back and talk to someone else as if you haven't called before. When I found out about them someone on the forums had said they got theirs for free. I then called and got mine for free. Unless they changed their policy you may just get a rogue person who doesn't want to waive the fee. Tell them how you want to be able to hide the box in a cabinet but you can't the way it is.

Hi all,

I've had my harmony 900 for about a month now. I finally set up my favorite channels, and it is causing me some issues. It appears that the remote is appending a "OK/Select" button push when I press a favorite channel soft button. For example, "Investigation Discovery" is channel 1246. When I push the soft button, it looks like 900 is sending "1", "2", "4", "6", "OK/Select."

The additional "OK/Select" button press causes issue for me - depending on the cable channel selected, pressing this button may or may not bring up an additional menu. So the harmony correctly turns to the favority channel, but also may bring up a menu.

Can I inhibit this behavior, i.e. just get the harmony to send the channel numbers?

Thank you very much! That did the trick.

Just thinking out loud here about a new topic:
Now I have to figure out how to get some sequences implemented in the 900.
I am thinking about defining a new device that I have a remote for, but isn't actually in use. I will use that device in my activity, and for the number buttons on the remote of that device I will actually create macros in eventGhost... So when I push number 1 on my "sony VCR remote", it will activate a sequence of IR send commands in eventGhost, which will be sent out through my USBUIRT, received by my harmony 900 IR repeater, and forwarded to my actual devices...

Then I will place the sony "1" button on a soft button of my activity...
I don't see any reason why it will not work.....

When I press all off, it is comming out of activity. Is it possible to set buttons to the command I need though it is not in activity.

For example, when I press all off, it turns off light. Is it possible to quickly turn on the light when I am in not in activity? Otherwise,I need to choose devies and select lutron and then find command. I want to assign one of the physical button itself to light on/off.

mdavej

Add lutron device to all your activities and assign desired buttons.

DLitwack
11-21-11, 05:11 PM
I added Lutron maestro to all my activities for light control. Problem I ran into was all lights being turned onto full bright anytime I changed activities I never was able to prevent that and I eventually just deleted the Lutron activities and access now only from devices. My point is I don't think you could use it as a placeholder for other key presses or learned commands

Thanks for the feedback...., all the buttons work but in the initial start of an activity it turns on my Lutron lighting up the room lights to max luminosity I could reach for the remote to hit favorite but the blinding light is overwhelming

I think you missed my point which was that all you have to do is change the device power settings instead of removing the device entirely. All your lights turned on because your power settings told them to.

The remote is working except for this one issue - every time I power down it shuts off the Yamaha RX-V671 down and then powers it right back up.

I spent a lot of time with Logitech support and have drilled down on the issue - if Aquos Link control on the Sharp TV and HDMI control on the receiver are BOTH off the remote works as it should.

But with these both enabled it does not work - on turn off it shuts everything down including the receiver, and the receiver then gets turned right back on.

Problem is that both need to be enabled so that sound from the TV is channeled back thru to the receiver when watching Netflix. Any help would be appreciated.

Sound will work fine without HDMI control, your remote will not. You need to make a "Watch Netflix" activity that selects the proper AVR input and the AVR vol buttons for vol control.

Thanks for the reply. Even without this remote, if HDMI control is off, the tv audio does not get channeled thru the receiver - I tried it and went through every input on the receiver and there is no audio coming from the tv.

You could make a "turn all off" activity with as many off commands as necessary.

That's really strange that HDMI audio is tied to HDMI control. I would suggest just adding a tv discrete on command to the start of your activity, but Sharp usually doesn't have discrete on/off, so that won't work. I'm stumped.

I have been escalated to level 2 support with Harmony and awaiting their phone call. From what I can tell right now - the only option is to add a discrete "off" command/activity for the receiver (something I or level 1 Harmony support have not been able to achieve) so that when it kicks back on again after everything powers off , I then am just be able to turn off the receiver.

I've owned a harmony 900 for 3 weeks now (I sold an mx850 to get something more user friendly). I really hoped this would be the perfect remote for us.

However, we are having the following problems:

-Even though my closet is 8' away and the closet door is opened the rf periodically loses touch with the base station (flashing red X instead of the transmit symbol). Ive unplugged our baby monitor, our wifi, and everything else to no avail. Standing next to the rf station somewhat defeats the purpose of an RF remote.

-Ive tried everything to get rid of the delay with our directv r10 tivo to no avail. I've adjusted all the timings, and no matter what, the remote seems to 'queue' the commands, resulting in us almost always fast forwarding past the commercial and 5 minutes into the next program. Between this and the rf issue, it's the most unresponsive remote Ive ever experienced.

-I've owned it for 3 weeks. Ive sent 2 emails to tech support from the harmony app, one of which was responded to in 5 days, and my response which still hasn't been replied to. I held for 45 minutes on the phone the other day before hanging up.

If this remote actually worked and had decent tech support, it would be amazing. As is, I'm one week away from losing my return capabilities and still without a response from harmony. Any last ditch efforts I should try before returning this. I don't understand why this should be so hard as my mx850 was flawless and had zero problems. But in searches, my problems seem to be more common than I would like.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Many cable remotes, one-for-all, etc. will work. Or you can buy a $15 RCA RCRP05B and do it. Just program one of those remotes to use TV code 0689 (10689), the tap the setup button followed by 00160 for discrete on or 00156 for discrete off.

Thank you but I am pretty close to abandoning the universal remote concept.I can't say I blame you. But harmony isn't the only universal out there. Many other brands let you add codes yourself and put anything you want in your macros (activities). It just so happens you have an application that no remote was designed to handle. The blame really lies with your TV that has wrongly tied HDMI control to your audio output.

Understood. I think I will try again if and when I get another device like a blue ray player that also has a Netflix app - right now the TV is the only option for Netflix. Thanks again.

I've owned one since they were introduced (paid $400 for it) and it is seeing less and less use as we have all Sony HDMI now plus a TiVo Premiere. The TiVo remote can turn on the AVR with the TV and control AVR volume, and a single Sony remote can run everything for Blu-Ray viewing.

I'd return it if you can--just my $.02

The brainless command queuing and weak RF will never get less frustrating.

Hello all. I use my H900 for my living loom (LR) setup and love it--so much so that I just bought a second H900 for my bedroom (BR). These will remain two completely separate instances (i.e., I am not looking to share blasters or anything else). My LR setup is exactly the way I want it (finally), and I don't want to change or re-do any of it.

Question 1. I plan to simply create a second login account for my new BR remote, add all my BR devices on that account. Then I'll just login to my old or new account to make any changes going forward. Correct?

Question 2. I use my LR remote all the time, and will be using the BR remote much less. I'm a little worried that I'll eventually wear out the buttons. So, to extend the life of the remote (at least a little bit), I would like to swap remotes. After my BR instance is set up and working, I plan to:

a. Plug new remote into old account and perform an update
b. Plug old remote into new account and perform an update

Will this work, or is the serial number of the remote tied to a particular account (or some other roadblock) that would cause my plan to fail?

mdavej
12-08-11, 03:37 PM
1. Yes, each remote needs its own account(s) which will have no effect on the other. Back when I had harmony remotes, I had at least 3 accounts per remote - one for the current config, one for testing and one for sharing.

2. I think that should work, but I never had the guts to try it. Someone else will have to answer that one.

I just bought the Harmony 900 and have a couple of questions:

1. How do you program buttons from other remotes directly into the Harmony? I control winamp from my computer using a imon remote and I want to program those buttons into the Harmony.

2. I'm at the point in the setup where I need to do the RF setup. I don't have my components in my closet yet (will do that next weekend). Should I wait to complete the setup when I have everything in the closet or can I go ahead and place the rf sensors with my components in their current location even though they will be moved into a closet in a week?

thanks

Ignore question 2, I went ahead and set everything up. However, I can't find a way to program buttons from other remotes directly into this remote. I'm starting to think that it is not possible. If that's the case that's really pathetic. My cable tv remote can do it for god's sake.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am, but this remote will be going back for sure if there is no way to learn functions from other remotes that come from devices that aren't on the list to choose from (like my sms-1 bass management system and remote that controls mouse function, and all basic functions of winamp and itunes on my computer).

No problem, check under the Devices tab in the Software.

Also, has anyone programmed the RB and LB (right and left Bumper) commands for xbox 360? I never had them in there, but the new UI kinda makes it necessary. Are they in there and I just missed them. Do I need to get them added or are they learned from the controller?

Well I can't learn the LB and RB from the controller because it's Bluetooth haha.

I have also noticed that the screen has frozen a few times with a blank screen. Is it possible that I received a lemon of a remote? I have contacted support yet, thought I wouls start here. I've had to reset mine a few times. I just pull the battery and let it reboot. Then reset the clock in the settings. Kinda annoying but atleast it keeps all my activities.

My clock was off once. Don't remember if an update fixed it or if I had to remove the battery then update. No problems since though.

I've had the grey screen several times. It comes back to normal after the backlight timer expires and I wake it again. It bothered me the first few times I saw it too. Idk if it indicates a more serious issue...

I am considering purchase of the 900. Here is a list of the equipment I need to control. I have concerns about being able to control the two Directv HD-DVRs independently.

Equipment:

Integra DHC 80.3
Directv HD-DVR 1
Directv HD-DVR 2
Verizon FIOS HD-DVR
OPPO BDP-93

I'd like to be able to set up single buttons to:

Watch Directv 1
Watch Directv 2
Watch FIOS
Watch/Listen to Blu Ray Player
Watch/Listen to Computer

I need to be able to control the OPPO's file player capabilities. Does the 900 have the ability to control the menu choices of the file player? If not, can it be programmed to do so?

Overall, will the 900 do the job, or do I have to go with the more expensive URC 880 remote + MRF-350 base station?

Thanks, Steven.

You should have no problem with what you want to do. You just set up each individual component as a separate activity, and while setting it up, you will be instructed to press a couple of buttons on your original remotes in order for the 900 to figure out which code set is being used by your two DirecTv dvrs. I have done the same thing as I have two dvrs in the same a/v cabinet. One uses the default code set and the other used AV1. I have my activities for these labeled "DVR 1" and "DVR 2". When I want to watch something, I merely select one of those activities. You can also switch from one to the other very easily. For instance, if you want to schedule something for recording on the dvr that you are not presently watching, you would press the activities button and select the other dvr.
I switched from a Pronto tsu7500 and am very happy since the 900 provides more hard button control and I quickly learned to use the buttons by feel without even having to look at the remote--I simply reach for it on the table next to my chair, and I can find the buttons by feel.

Hello All,

I recently purchased the 900 for my new HT and am trying to configure the play button in my Watch DVD activity to also dim my IR controlled lights. I know you need to go into the customize button setting and learn the play button as RAW but I am having great difficulty doing this. Is there a special trick? I've tried many different combos (i.e. pressing play on the player remote wait a second then press lights off on the dimmer remote; pressing play on the player remote then quickly press lights off on the dimmer remote; etc).

Any advice would be appreciated.

It's always difficult. You have to get all commands in there with no delays at all in about a second. The best I'm ever able to do manually is 3 commands. Teaching from a JP1 remote that can play back macros very fast, I can sometimes get 15 commands into one raw learn. Of course it's no problem at all on a harmony that can do sequences like the One. In that case you don't have to resort to the raw learn trick at all.

Thanks mdavej. So I need to press the play and lights off buttons quickly one after the other in succession without a delay in between in order for the 900 to accept both codes as one?

Correct. Any gap will be interpreted as the end of the learn. So multiple commands with no gaps is how we fool the remote into thinking it's one signal.

I just got one of these for Christmas (refurb 900) and am wondering about the durability of the buttons. The reason I needed a new Harmony is that my 550's buttons (namely 1,2,3,4,7,8 and +) stopped working. They were rubber buttons, the 900 is rubber buttons...I'm a bit worried.

My 880 has been running flawlessly since August 2006 when I bought it (plastic buttons).

The newer models like the 900 have much more durable buttons than the old 5xx series. Sadly, it doesn't matter how durable they are since logitech took away sequence functionality.

I have been using a Pronto TSU7000 for years to control my home theater and it has served me well but it's time to move on. We really want a remote with more hard buttons, the Pronto was fun to program, we could add a lot of cool looking screens but in reality we didn't use them that much and the lack of hard buttons makes it difficult to use.

We have a Wii, PS3, XBox 360, Onkyo 605, Motorola Cable Box, and PCH A-200.

I don't see a need for the remote to control any of the gaming systems as we just use them to play games and therefore pickup the controler each time we use them although the remote would have to change inputs to the systems which it obviously does.

I see no need in our setup for sequences, again we need a remote that changes inputs and has hard buttons for basic function for cable and the PCH, the only sequence type activity that I currently use is to "push" the home button on the PCH when switching to that input but that isn't make or break for me.

In reading many reviews and fourms it seems as though the big problem most have with the 900 is the lack of sequences which doesn't matter to me. My other concern is how well the RF works, my Pronto is setup with RF and IR blasters so I am comfortable with that setup read from some that the RF isn't that good and that would be make or break for me as I must have RF because my componets are behind a wall.

Is the RF a serious issue? If I didn't care about sequences and really like the layout of the 900 does it seem like a good choice for me?

The Harmony 900 does not control other RF devices. It only controls the IR blasters via its RF frequency. So, I don't think that the Harmony 900 can control any other RF device (I.e. your pronto IR Emmiters)

My plan is to remove the RF reciever that goes with the Pronto remote and replace it with the RF reviever that comes with the 900. The IR emitters would stay on the componets....I would unplug from the Pronto RF receiver and plug into the 900 RF receiver.

How does the Harmony match up with a DVR remote (mine is Cox Cable) that has colored A, B, C buttons? It appears that on the new Harmony remotes they have added a row of colored buttons that are now common on many remotes but it appears that my DVR has some uncommon buttons.

On a normal remote you have red - green - yellow - blue

On the cox dvr you have yellow (A) - blue (B) - red (C)

So would the harmony use these as:

red (C) - green (not used) - yellow (A) - blue (B) .....this one keeps the color and letter matched up but is not in ABC order

or

red (A) - green (B) - yellow (C) - blue (not used) ........this one keeps the letters in ABC order but the colors are not the same as on the cox remote

agree with gary and exactly what i've done with my harmony cox cable dvr programming. i've matched the oem remote's colors to the 900 colors and disregarded the alphabetical order. it's more intuitive as the dvr's onscreen gui prompts users using color as well.

For channels it's the inter-key delay you should be changing. 5-6 seconds is far too long. Make the delays the same as you need to reliable enter channels manually, more like half a second probably. It may also help to add an Enter to the end or start with OK to "wake up" the box, or even add more digits (pad beginning with zeros). It all depends on your cable system.

Selling your remote is pointless because the problem is in the cable box. Any remote you get will have exactly the same problem until you get the delays right. Harmony gives you all the tools you need to fix it.

What does it matter? You can put any function you want on any button, including the color ones. I maintain those same functions on the colored buttons on my harmony. On a real universal remote (definitely not the 900) you could even put macros on them.

I think it does just one or the other for each device. From what I understand it can communicate with a device via IR or it can communicate with the base station via RF. The base station can then send the appropriate IR signals out. Make sense?

My 900 arrived today and I have been messing around with it most of the afternoon. It was a replacement for a Pronto remote and in my opinion a good one. The remote was dead ass simple to program, maybe that's because I have spent the last few years using a Pronto and that takes some time to learn but in any case it is up and running. I have everything setup and running as expected with one small issue; I have some favorite channels with icon and about 10 to 20% of the time they don't get all the numbers in and I get the incorrect channel. My guess is that I probably need to move the RF receiver to a better place? Could it be something else or is it most likely an RF issue?

Try increasing the inter-key delay and retest. It sounds like it may be sending the key presses quicker than your TV / box can accept them.

When using discrete power commands does the 900 still remeber the power state of the device or does it always send the command?

In other words if I use activity "Watch Popcorn Hour" after using "Watch TV" does the 900 know the TV is on so it doesn't send the "power on" command again or does it send it everytime just to be sure?

I have been using a Pronto for years and when setting up my macros I always included the discrete power on command in all my macros just to insure the TV was on and the receiver was on so I was just curious if the 900 did the same. I would suspect that sending the command would take very little time and would add no detectable time the activity sequence. Probably not necessary but I was just curious.

When you add things like tuning a channel to a Watch TV activity they can get a bit lengthy. Using the Help button for an occasional missed command seems preferable to added Activity execution time.

It does remember the state of each device and won't send the command again. However, you can add additional commands to execute every time the activity is selected if you prefer (I.e. discrete power on signal)

You don't have to worry about the tv power. If you switch from one activity to another, both of which incorporate the tv, the tv will remain on. Conversely, if you go to an activity which does not need the tv, such as a cd player, the tv will be turned off. For instance, if I am watching my dvr, and switch to a dvd player, the dvd player will turn on and the dvr will turn off.
Each activity knows which devices are needed, and if one or more of the devices are being used in the previous activity, they will remain on.

For instance, if I am watching my dvr, and switch to a dvd player, the dvd player will turn on and the dvr will turn off.
Each activity knows which devices are needed, and if one or more of the devices are being used in the previous activity, they will remain on.

Thanks...I am also happy with the change, the addition of all of the hard buttons make it so much easier to use.

Is anyone using their 900 with a logitech revue?

I searched the thread and got 0 results.

Since getting my revue my opinion of my 900 has plummeted. It's become nearly unusable.

If you have this setup and found a way to make the 900 more responsive please post your changes to the revue and 900. I've switch from RF to IR to control the revue to cut out some delay and missed commands, but overall the 900- is now complete garbage when using the revue. The revue keyboard is very responsive, but I don't want to use it for channel surfing.

My biggest issue is changing channels on my directv hr22. sometimes when I enter a channel like 331 it sends a 3 then a d instead of 33. Or channel 269 ends up being 222. Sometimes it will literally take over a dozen tries to change to a specific channel. Now granted the hr22 has always been slow to respond to my 900, but now it's nearly useless.

This remote is supposed to make tv viewing more stream lined, not make the stock remote look better and better every day.

When I added the Revue the behavior of my 900 was unchanged with the cable box. That leaves the DirectTV box as the difference.

When I added the Revue the behavior of my 900 was unchanged with the cable box. That leaves the DirectTV box as the difference.

But are you using the revue the way it was designed? As in your cable box connects to the revue and the revue to your tv or avr? So your 900 sends commands to the revue (either directly through IR or using the blaster) and the revue sends those commands to the cable box.

My issue is present since adding the revue. I've read elsewhere that the revue suffers from interference with many tvs. I should also ask is your equipment hidden away in a cabinet or something?

I'm assuming you mean the part where I try to find an old floppy disk and tape it to my revue?

Basically I should just give up on either the revue or the 900. One of them is going to end up smashed into tiny pieces if logitech doesn't get this sorted.

Wow, not sure why you're so hostile, but surely it's unwarranted. I read the thread you posted and the floppy disk thing was the only half solution I found that pertained to my issues. If you had some other possible solution in mind then please share it. If you mean this thread, I've tried searching it for the word revue and got 0 results. There's a TON of posts to go through just to manually find revue related posts.

Seriously, if you know how to fix my issue please share!! I've been searching the logitech forums and google for a couple months now to no avail.

So instead of being an apologist for logitech, let me know how you got yours working so well. Also you never did mention how you have your review hooked up. At this point I'm guessing you use it as a stand alone device and don't actually have your stb connected through it.

Gary J

I have the STB connected through it the standard way as you described. I connected as recommended and it just worked so I did nothing special to get it "working so well". I suspect this Revue/Harmony/STB problem is vary rare and that is why you are unable to find anything on it and why I say it is a "you" specific problem. I also suspect a Revue/Harmony/STB setup is quite common so I would review my setup, do further research or contact Logitech support. Especially if the Revue was the most recent piece of equipment added to your setup and it all worked well before that.

Got my first 900 this week and like it so much I think I will buy a second for my family room. Currently none of my activites can be done at the same time, watch tv, play x-box, watch a movie, etc. If I add an activity which can happen at the same time such as "Adjust Lights" and I leave "Watch TV" to adjust the lights when I return to the TV will the 900 remember that the TV is on, correct input, etc or will it run the "Watch TV" macro again?

Thanks for the reply. So how would I be able to do what I suggested? If I have an activity that is "Watch TV" I select this TV and receiver come on and go to the correct inputs and all is good. Ten minutes later I decide I want to dim the lights a bit so I go to the activity "Adjust Lights" and since that doesn't need the TV or receiver those would both shut off? I want to keep watching TV I just want to do it with the lights down.

How many button presses does it take to "dim the lights?" If it is single button, you can use a soft key (on the screen) for the Lights Up and Lights Down (assuming that there are only two buttons). No need to create an activity. Now if they wouldn't have taken away the "sequence" function on the 900, you could program the pause button to pause and raise the lights and the play button to play and dim the lights.

Yes, it should. I have both, 2 devices sending commands with one button press and one device sending repeated commands with one button press.

i.e. PS3 "play" and Lutron Grafik Eye "Movie Scene"

Keydigital switcher/scaler "aspect" 4 times in a row or 2 times in a row, all depending on what aspect I need to set my image to.

Should be the same with different commands from the same device.

Good luck.

I think the cables that the blaster uses are 1/8 stereo jacks. You can buy it at radio shack or something maybe mono price too for long runs. The remote supports more than just the one blaster that comes with it (3?). So it should work but you may need so,e more hardware.

It would be easier to use an extension cable like this.
http://www.amazon.com/Your-Cable-Store-Headphone-Extension/dp/B000Z0YECU

If you can't find a 2.5mm extension that is long enough you could use 3.5mm extension cable with the proper adapters to 2.5mm.

Raw mode?????
FYI from the help section in the software.

What is the difference between analyzed and Raw commands?

Analyzed commands are a condensed version of the commands from your original remote. They have been matched to a language in the public database for your devices. Analyzed commands are more versatile and will allow you to efficiently control your devices.

Raw commands are stored exactly as your original remote sends them. If analyzed commands are not properly controlling a specific function for your device, see: "How do I teach it in RAW format?"

&

My Device won’t recognize the commands I have taught to the remote. How do I teach it in RAW format?

To teach commands in Raw Format:

Click the Devices tab on your home page.
Click Learn IR in the appropriate device category.
Click Custom at the bottom of the page. The page will reload.
Select the boxes for commands you would like to teach (if you click the box next to the column heading, Selected, all commands will automatically be checked).
Click Learn Selected Commands as Raw.
After you have learned the commands and you have made all the changes you wish to make, click Update Remote to add the changes to your account.

Note: When teaching commands, press the button on the original remote for as long as is required to control the device. The commands will be learned with the exact format that is sent by the original remote.

If you are having problems teaching commands in Raw, complete the following steps:

Verify you are pointing the original remote to the bottom of the other remote and are holding the remotes 2-4 inches apart.
Minimize the amount of light that could interfere with the learning process by covering the distance between the remotes. Block our sunlight, or turn off the lights.
Check that the original remote has working batteries. If the batteries are low, the signal coming from your original remote may be too weak for the remote to detect.
Be sure to hold down the button on the original remote for at lease 1-2 seconds, otherwise the signal may be too short for the remote to detect.
If you continue to experience problems, try positioning the remotes 2 inches apart and then try again, slightly increasing the distance each time (2.5 inches, 3 inches, etc.)
Vary the angle at which the original remote is pointing at the bottom of the remote.
Ensure the device’s original remote is sending infrared (IR) commands.

Note: The original remote is sending RF or UHF commands if it controls the device from another room or through a wall.

I don't remember the term Logitech uses in the troubleshooter, but that setting affects how many copies of the command is sent when a button is pressed. Yours sends too many. Using a lower number should fix it. Custom - Raw may also fix it if you use very short presses when learning, but will break the normal repeat behavior.

Found the option to reduce/increase the commands. Reduced the setting a couple of notches. That didn't help, and it slowed everything else down as well. Changed it back and was about to do the Raw approach and discovered all my Dish remotes start out at x4 when I hit RW/FF. WTF!!!! I was hoping you still had that particular device you set it the 880 up with. The software will suggest devices when your setting it up and it may have picked up a different model or the same model with an updated code set.

A couple of things to try,

First go to devices on your remote and select that device and see if the buttons behave the same in this mode. If they do not the buttons could be mapped incorrectly within the activity.

Secondly I would add a similar device maybe a previous generation and see if that one works ok or not.

Hello,

I just had my Mits WD-73833 replaced by extended warranty with a wd-73838. My remote worked perfect with the 73833 but with the 838 there are problems I can not figure out.

Hi Bob, I'm new to the Harmony 900 and I also have a 73833. The problem I'm having is with my Activities involving input changes to the TV. I was wondering which setup you chose for this? I picked the one that cycles through the inputs in a fixed order but I notice depending on what input the TV is left on, it will end up on a different input when the Activity is launched. Any suggestions?

The only time I had something go fubar is if I removed the old device from an activity before adding the new one. Whenever I have a new device I'm sure to add it first to the database of devices, and then go thru the process of running thru the wizard for each activity it is used in. Then finally I delete the old device as the software realizes it is not being used anywhere. Following this routine has always worked ok.

Hi everyone,

I just purchased and setup a Harmony 900 remote and seem to be having an issue. I've searched around a bit on here but haven't found an answer and figured I'd ask all the knowledgeable people in this thread.

I have my 900 turn on my Epson 8700UB projector, my a/v receiver, and my Dish receiver when I want to watch some TV. To turn everything off, my projector requires two power off commands sent (the first power-off command simply puts up a menu asking if I want to confirm). This works perfectly.

Now the problem is if I want to switch from "Watch TV" to "Watch a Blu-ray". My projector and a/v receiver are required for both of these activities, but for some reason the projector gets turned off and then doesn't turn on (this might be because the projector is in cooling mode and can't turn on immediately after being turned off).

My question is...with my projector requiring two power-off commands to turn off, is there any way I can have it stay on when I switch between activities instead of having it power off at all?

Thank you!

oman321
01-31-12, 07:59 AM
You've got something wrong in your setup. Your projector should not be powering off if it is being used in one activity and then you switch to another activity that also uses it. The only thing that should happen is that it switches inputs if necessary.

Harmony uses smartstate to keep track of the status of your devices but only via activities, so be sure you are powering up devices and turning them off via activities only.

Other than that try setting up the activities again from scratch.

sivartk
01-31-12, 03:11 PM
Another thing to remember is that when you are updating your activities on your remote it is assuming that you have turned all of your devices off prior to the remote update. Since most of the time I leave my devices on while adjusting the setup, it is an easy way to get out of sync and send an off command when you think it shouldn't be sending a command at all.

Brandito

Use discrete on off commands instead of power toggle.

Gary J

Why would that make a difference? It should not be sending discrete or toggle if the device is used in the next activity.

Well to the harmony that should be the same. So if you change activities or hit the power off button the harmony still sees that as leaving the activity and will raise the screen UNLESS the screen is used in the activity you are transitioning to.

I have to manually select the device and push the button to make the screen go up. Any ideas?

Did you set the up the screen to have power on and power off commands? Power on = screen down, Power off = screen up.

Doing it when leaving the activity wouldn't work the way you want because you would be sending a screen up command when switching activities. Then you would need to send a screen command again to lower the screen either manually or at the beginning of activities.

Go thru the wizard for the screen device where you can change the power settings.

I would like to control music on my deck from four different sources from zone2

My thought would be to do a Zone2 on/off, Zone2 input, Zone2 volume, then just use the Device button to access whatever he wanted to listen to....does this sound like a plan

Not ideally, you want to run thru the device wizard again for your receiver. The software should know that the device has a zone 2 capability, if it does not then you would want to treat zone 2 as a seperate device or receiver.

You then treat zone2 as any other device and create activities you want to use it in, along with the other devices you want to use with it. So if you have lets say Cable music for your activity, then you need to use your cable box and receiver zone 2 in that activity. This way the Harmony will keep track of the state of your devices. When you go thru devices to change things, the device status is not being tracked and you will be out of sync, things wont turn on or off correctly or be on the correct inputs.

Basically repeat this for the devices you want to create activities for in zone 2. Hope that helps.

Ok, I'll be getting the remote this week, i'll get the main system up and running, I hope you guys can school me on this Zone2 stuff i seem to have a mental block going...

As i said Zone2 is fed to the deck speakers, music only like XM,FM ect.. Not sure why i have such a problem, probably because i avoid it and never mastered it..

Thanx guys

You'll be ok once you get going. Just basically think of zone2 as a seperate receiver just for the deck and create all the activities with the sources you want to access on the deck area. I have a similar setup and only really have 3 activities. Cable Music(Cable Box & rcvr.), CD Music(PS3 & rcvr.), Deck FM Tuner (receiver only).

Just chime in if you get stuck, someone's always willing to help, good luck.

I'll bump this one to any user that might be able to help. I've got a Mits DLP that only has one input button to cycle through the various Antenna, RCA and HDMI inputs. The TV stays on the last input used when powered down. The problem is that when I try to use my activity to watch movies from my media streamer, the activity never ends up on the correct input. There's an option in the setting of the TV to be able to "hide" unused inputs which I also use. Any help appreciated.

The Harmony database has all the direct inputs for this set. I have the 65833 and they're all listed.

Like most tvs, generally Mits has discrete input commands. So using input Method 2 will solve your problem, whether you have some hidden or not. It doesn't matter that the remote only has one input button. The original remote is irrelevant in this case. If the profile you're using doesn't have discretes (Input HDMI1, Input Component1, etc.), try another similar model, i.e., a different screen size or older model.

EDIT: I see Joe beat me to it. Direct = discrete.

oman321
02-06-12, 01:54 PM
As mentioned discrete is the best option when available on your tv's command set.

Also is there enough of a delay when powering up? Your DLP needs enough time from when it is powered on to when it is ready to receive a command. If you successfully go from one activity to another activity and the inputs change as they should, that is your problem. Go to this device in the software and go to more options, select adjust the delays, then power on delay.

You should probably be at about 15000 to 18000 ms for a delay. You can start high and then notch it back until it doesn't work again, then you know the minimum delay that you need from a power off state.

So i made a device Zone2 avr receiver. It wont activate the zone2 in the receiver. The last remote that died controled zone2 via IR, so i know it can be done.

Activities XM2 turns on the receivers main zone

Do i have to learn the 900 all the commands off the original remote for the reciever which is a Denon 2805

Plus, will i then be ale to run another activity like watch DVD in the Living room. How will the remote know which zone I'm in, keep switching it from activity to activity depending where i am and what i want to do, then master off kills the whole thing...

Zone2 is tough.....

oman321

Go thru the command set for the zone 2 device and make certain the correct commands are mapped to it, hopefully all the commands are already available. Go thru the wizard also for that device and ensure that correct command(s) for power on and off are mapped there as well.

As far as multiple activities it will depend on how you want to handle. If you mean your just personally moving form area to area then yes, you choose the activity for the area your in. If you are entertaining and want to have all the areas on at the same time you can create an activity which includes all the equipment which needs to be on.

I have an all media on activity for my HT and rec. room area which turns on my receiver, projector, rec. room t.v., and tunes everything to the cable input(cable box is always left on).

If volume in each zone is independent, you will need to assign one zone's volume to the hard keys and the other zone you can assign to soft keys on the screen.

kgveteran
02-09-12, 01:05 PM
If i end up getting this straight, and have the activities in order can i do this......can a choose XM radio Zone2( back deck ), then hit Watch TV in the living room and have both on at the same time.

oman321
02-09-12, 02:27 PM
Only if you tell the software to leave unused devices on when exiting activities.

In other words yes, you can turn xm on zone 2 for the deck, then switch activities and turn on watch tv for the living room but only if you indicate for device not to be turned off when switching activities. They will still turn off when you hit the all off button.

If you want different sources at each location that is probably the best way to do it. Ultimately you can switch back and forth between activities for control, again if you leave the equipment on when switching activities. You can also program the commonly used commands to the soft keys on the screen.

In my scenario I was tuning both the HT and rec room to cable and either watching the same program or listening to music from the same source.

You seem to be indicating that you want music on the deck while watching a tv program in the living room.

^^^^ first off thank you for your time...

This is what i ultimately want. I set up the livingroom perfect. All goes on all goes off, and total control of everything, device wise.

On the deck (Zone2).... i would like XM radio and FM radio, and volume control. I would like to have both zones operating at once. Hometheater DVD living room, and XM on the deck just as an example

No problem.

Ya, if that's how you want to run things then your best option is to simply state that you want unused devices to be left on when switching activities. You would be able to do it any order really, and then switch to the corresponding activity to gain control of the area your in at the specific time.

Everything should power off when hitting the power off button.

kgveteran
02-09-12, 06:49 PM
Ok, went to options and switched to Leave power on when switching activities, but as you say, master power shuts the whole thing down..

Now, i switched the second Receiver to Zone2, if i activate the activity XM Zone2, it doesnt power on Zone2, will i have to customize the power toggle in the soft key page. I know how to teach it IR commands if i have to....When checking the drop down boxes in " customize button " i cant see Zone2 Power. Am i missing something or shouldnt the Power Toggle for Zone2 button be available somewhere other than the original remote.

I'm gonna customize all these buttons too while I'm at it

An alternative to specifying that all devices are left on is to define one or more mega activity that includes all the required combination of devices and settings. You will have to map the zone 2 volume +/- buttons to soft keys. That is how I have my remote setup.

Yes, it should work out that way. Just need to straighten out the power command for zone 2. The software should be treating it as a separate device and powering it on. when switching to that activity. Just be sure the zone 2 power command is set up as the power on command for zone 2 receiver in the devices section. If it's not there then yes teach it from the remote.

I have a similar setup with all media on, it seems kgveteran wants to have the ability to switch to any source in either area.

I guess you could go about it by turning everything on at once and then selecting inputs and sources thru soft keys, but it would turn on more than you need to or you would need a more extensive number of activities to have different combinations of devices and control.

I experimented with my 890, everything works but the power toggle. Seems when i give Zone2 its zone2 power, livingroom gets zone2's power toggle ?......

After playing around it seems the remote does not separate the two receiver zones, it treats them as one. Best i could do the assign toggle power to zone2 and power on/off to living rm zone. That worked. Any time i assign zone2 cable/sat, main zone loses it Grrrrrr, but this is the 890 and not the 900, i just thought i would set mine up for summer

When you set up the receiver you have to check both boxes and name the two zones, i was doing one at a time and they were duplicates of each other duh.....

I erased them and stared over by checking both boxes and renaming, then harmony separates them..geez..talk about learning curve LOL

How many button presses does it take to get you to netflix?

Wesley Hester

I know that on the Roku, Netflix could be anywhere in a list of other "channels/apps" depending on how many are installed at any given time. Channels installed or removed would effect that total over time.
The Roku remote doesn't have a dedicated Netflix. The number of installed channels would have to stay constant and only the 900 could be allowed to change them to allow it to keep track of where it was among them.

App based control over your network are pretty cool. This Roku app (http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/23/roku-ios-app-updated-adds-d-pad-swipe-remote/) allows for direct channel selection. Maybe new Harmony remotes will allow direct IP interactions over your network.

I am in the process of remodeling my home. We are planning on creating an A/V closet in the basement (under the stairs) that will house all of our components. These consist of (2) AV receivers, (2) TiVo's, XBox 360, PS3, AppleTV and a MacMini HTPC. I have two Harmony 900 remotes, one that will control the family room directly above the basement. The other will control the bedroom set-up on the second floor.

The Blaster and mini-Blasters for each will go in the basement. Should I attempt to point them upwards or even on the stairs since it's an unfinished basement.

Here's where I'm a little confused. For the family room, this configuration will likely work great, considering the RF is not very far and there isn't much in terms of walls blocking it.

With the bedroom, there are two floors of range. Is there anything I can do to extend the range of this configuration? The walls are completely open now, so is there any wiring I can do to enhance the chances of this working flawlessly?

Hi all

I presumed that my question may have been a common one, but after searching and searching I cant find an answer (maybe my terminology is wrong!)

Im looking at buying a 900 (specifialy for the RF functionality over the one) and understand the "no sequences/macros" issue/frustration.

I think I can get around this in my case by simply setting up more activities, but was wondering specifically:

- Is it possible to group activities, rather than just have one long list? I would ideally like to have 2 different activity groups (Lounge & Dining), rather than essentialy duplicating everything; ie: watch TV lounge, and watch TV dining

- can I program an activity under a soft key "within" another activity? The reason I would do this is that my standard everyday "watch TV" activity would simply be a duplication of my TV remote; but I would like a "link" to "watch TV via receievr" which would mute the tv, switch on the reciever, and set the Rx input. I guess I could program these commands under soft keys, but it kind of defeats the purpose of trying to simplify and automate things in the first place.

- is it possible to "hide" activities? Following on from the above, in an ideal scenario "watch TV via receiever" would only ever be accessed once inside the "watch TV" activity

I can see how I can functionaly achieve everyhting that i would like to do, but could potentialy end up with a very unelegant solution; ie: having to scroll through 6 different variants of the "watch tv" activity, before I even get to my other activities.

Maybe Im trying to push the 900 past what logitech sees as standard.....

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Barry

The short answer is no.

With a Harmony you only want to really change the state of a device via activity selection, otherwise your remote will become out of sync with your devices.

I have watch tv and watch tv w/soundbar activities along with DVD, WII and so on. It's not that bad really, simply having the most commonly used ones up top when I pick up the remote makes selecting or switching activities easy enough.

And if Im going to spend decent money, a little extra to do the job right isnt a huge issue.

Hi guys,

Is there any way that I can use my Harmony 900 with my Logitech Unifying USB Receiver (which is for my logitech keyboard and mouse)?

I have an HTPC connected into my Yamaha AVR and it would be awesome if there was a way that I could have the Harmony 900 send a simple keypress that would cause the system to wake up from sleep mode when I switch to my activity involving the HTPC.

Thank you.

I looked up the Unifying Receiver. Best I could tell it is RF so no it wont interface with the 900. Best you can do is to add an IR receiver to the HTPC to do what you propose.

One example.

I'm using a harmony 900 with blaster to control a HR24/200 DirectV DVR. My problem is when turning on my system everything but the DTV DVR turns on correctly. When using the help function it turns on every time. Even when turning off it works correctly, just when turning on initially it will not work. I've tried re organizing the order, changing the MS setting for the amount of time to turning on, repositioning the blaster, upgrading the blaster. The blaster is placed directly in front of the remote sensor. My question is, is there a way to program the blaster to remain on at all times? it seems that while the blaster is on i have no problems, but when turning on the first time is where my issues are. Thank you for any help that you can give me. So far Logitech has not been any help.

Have you tried increasing the Inter-device delay for the DirecTV DVR? Reset the Power-on delay back to default, as that has nothing to do with your problem.

^^

Thank you. I set everything to be IR, and it seemed to work, at least briefly.

Now my problem is that while within a given activity (watching TV), the remote will simply stop responding to commands. If I tell it to "watch tv" again, it freezes. When I restart (pull the battery out), it tells me my blaster needs to updated?? If I hit cancel, I'm right back at the same spot (no response to commands). Finally, I found out that if tell it to watch a DVD and switch back to TV, it works, but only for a little while till it gets buggy again.

Do I just have a bad unit, or do I not have something set up correctly?

mdavej

That's not a bug. Run any activity twice in a row and nothing will happen because it's already run. It's remembers everything is already in the proper state so it does nothing, as it should. If you've left the activity and want to return, simply click the "activity" or "devices" button twice.

xjwheelr
03-08-12, 10:41 PM
I should have been more clear. When I say that it doesn't respond to commands, what I mean is if I hit "pause" it does not pause. If try to turn the volume up it does nothing, etc. I only resorted to hitting "watch TV" again in the hopes that it would kickstart it or something.

The root of the problem is that in the middle of an activity the remote will simply stop working.

Hello All,

I apologize if this question has been asked and answered, but I wasn't able to find a clear answer in this thread.

I'm in the process of putting together a system that has a Denon 3312CI Receiver, and Cisco 4625 HD cable box. Both of these components have IR-input jacks on the back. In an effort to make my wiring as "clean" as possible and hopefully speed up response time, I'd like to connect the base station directly to these ports, instead of using the IR Blasters.

I've seen posts talking about 3.5mm stereo cables, 3.5mm mono cables, 2.5->3.5mm cables... but unsure as to what I actually need.

Also, if possible, I'd like to be able to hook both of these devices to one port on the back of the 900 Base Station, using a splitter.

Also, if possible, I'd like to be able to hook both of these devices to one port on the back of the 900 Base Station, using a splitter.

that should all be doable with converters/splitter from your friendly neighborhood r-shack or online. i have splitters on both my main blaster out ports with direct in to the ir port in the back of my denon avr and disc changer. don't recall the exact set of splitters/converters i used, but it works seamlessly.

Not sure about the HD box but I also have the 3312 and I don't use the IR Blasters. The 900 works fine as is with the 3312.

What kind of cable to you use to connect your 900 base station to the 3312?

Nothing. I don't use the IR blasters or special cables for my HT setup. All my equipment is in front of me not off to the side or behind a cabinet. The only thing that is behind me is my Lutron IR light switch but it still picks up the signal from the 900 when I want to dim the lights. I guess it's bouncing off the 65" tv :)

i'll look to see if the denon ir in is a mono or stereo cable tonight and post back. same should work for other component ir in ports from my experience.

Hi guys,

I have a Western Digital TV Live Streaming Media Player (what a long name) and if I press the Power button on its remote control, the system goes into standby instead of truly powering off. To truly power it off, I need to hold down the remote's power button for 3 seconds. Is there a way I can accomplish this with my 900 using the blasters? (the device is inside a cabinet). If so how would I go about doing that? Thank you so much to all the kind folk in here who help out.

I would contact Harmony support on this one, as you need a Press and Hold function for your Power Off command, and only they can set that up for you.
