I am considering getting a Sony 34XBR960. Is it still afflicted with the vertical scrolling bar problem the older models had (my 34HS510 does it through DVI input). (I read the scrolling bar thread and the 34XBR970 has it, it's not as fancy a set as the 960.)

Anyone? I can purchase a 960 that is in nice shape, but I don't want to see any scrolling bar if I use HDMI at 1080i.

This problem has been driving me crazy forever with my XBR800. I was ready to sell the fregin thing over it. But all I had to do was output at 720p instead of 1080i and problem solved it seems. I am once again a happy camper. Outside of the soft corners I have, the picture quality is sublime. It's a shame that FP tech has taken over when CRT was still getting better each year.

there is some sort of a fix within the service menu. I'm not sure it works for all models, but look up HDPT (High Definition Pass-Through)

The OP's question was worded in a way that most with XBR960's won't respond.

I have one and have never seen a "vertical scrolling bar" problem using the HDMI input on the XBR960 nor my 36kdxs955

Probably a large set of the other views of this post (standing at over 600) have not experienced it either or someone would have noted it.

Seems like you are probably safe to go ahead with your find.
