I have a Direct tv hd h20 reciever. have started to have reception problems the last few days. All other tvs in the house operate fine. the problems have progressively gotten worse. a message started to display check or reinsert access card. I pulled the card today and it looked like it had gotten hot. plastic was really distorted in color. I have an old tivo box with the card still in it. i tried to go through and switch cards but the h20 box cant read card and wont let me proceed any farther. What else can i do? Can i even try and use the other card? any help is really appreciated.

Sounds like your receiver didn't have enough circulation and got too hot. Probably need another receiver.

If this is an H20-600 receiver, they are very prone to overheating. Check underneath the receiver. If it does NOT have a sticker saying ECO 2.0, it's subject to a recall anyway. Call DirecTV and ask for a replacement receiver.
