I have a shintom VCR that still works, when the rf output is hooked up to a computer I can see the video and hear the audio but when it is hooked up to a tv I just see the video and not hear the audio. would an rf signal amplifier fix the signal so I could here see the video and here the audio on the tv?
No.
could you explain why?
If it works on a computer using RF (coax), it should work on a TV using RF. If you get video, you should get audio. It's all contained on the same RF carrier signal.
Ratman is right. If your TV set has a rotary dial or older preset tuner, maybe the TV is just off tuning, try the fine tuning knob.

Try connecting the VCR to the TV through the A/V inputs (assuming your TV has A/V inputs).
